Re: to All the mothers, doctors, mothers to be, pls help!!!
^ That's right, M03! I just meant that the ovulation/conception timings are more relevant than your LMP (especially for folks who are irregular).

O wao... It means Sahar, mall and me are in he same boat...we gonna have april babies, inshallah.. my EDD is 8th april, 2010. So stay connected buddies, so happy to have someone like me here.
@ mall.. dont worry for your date of conception then... whenever doc ask about your LMP tell her and do inform her that you are PCOS patient... she will know the accurate date by baby's weight in ultrasound.
BTW which hospital is this you are goin? that i asked lats time too because my hospital isnt giving any telephonic helpline.

tashfeen my case is a bit difficult. one of my relatives is workin there so i knwo the doc personally becus of that. i think i mentioned before the hospital its zulekha shj. where r u plannin to have the baby.
really happy to see someone like u here with the same EDD and all. how many weeks are u in now?? lets keep in touch :)
Re: to All the mothers, doctors, mothers to be, pls help!!!
thanks MO3. ill ask the doc for CVS or aminocentesis.. but what is this? wots the purpose of this test? cud u please explain this.. i m actually confused with this:
Not to worry about the early tests, some of them are unreliable and serve little purpose other than to give stress to the parents! Like the blood markers for Downs syndrome. In two of my pregnancies, I was told that there was an 80 percent chance or greater for downs. Neither of my boys had downs though. Early ultrasound is a little more reliable - they measure the nucal sac in the neck of the baby.
u had said that early test are unreliable bur early ultra sound isnt. how and what test shud b done to meaasure the nucal sac in the neck of the baby.. and wot is this i didnt understand? nucal sac and all??
so MO3 and Sahar wot do u think shud i go for diabetes test later, not now? if yes then which week shud i have it? since i have a taken a package that incld all the blood test, ultrascans etc, can i have it now and later also or i mst wait before havin diabetes test done? thanks guys!!
Re: to All the mothers, doctors, mothers to be, pls help!!!
Hi mall,
The nucal sac is on the back of the baby's neck. It goes away as the baby develops but its measured early in pregnancy because downs syndrome babies usually have a very large nucal sac. So they measure it and give you the odds of whether the baby has downs or not. So this, too is unreliable but much more reliable than the blood test for markers. The estimation of the babys age and therefore the due date is very accurate though.
A CVS test (Chorionic Villi Sampling) is done at week 10 or 11. They insert a catheter through the cervix and remove a tiny sample of the placenta to do genetic testing. Amnio is done around week 18, they insert a needle through the abdomen and remove a sample of amniotic fluid to do the genetic testing. These tests are accurate to test for a number of genetic problems. CVS is slightly more risky than amnio but depends on how experienced and skilled the doctor is.
I dont know the details of the diabetes tests. I had them done in the second trimester and in two of my pregnancies, I had a second test in the third trimester because my results were borderline. I dont think it matters much if you have it done a week or two early but not sure....there isnt risk associated with the test so you could always have it repeated if you have a concern.

thx MO3 for such a detailed reply (hugs). as far as my knowledge goes not alot of preg women are asked to go for CVS or aminotic testing unless asked by doc i guess. maybe becus its a bit risky like u said. needless to say how its done sounds equally scarrrrrrry. what do u think abt it Sahar?? ill ask doc to check for downs syndrome (by checkin the nucal sac rite - ultrascan?)
Re: to All the mothers, doctors, mothers to be, pls help!!!
mall, you're right. Many women opt not to have either CVS or Amnio at all. Both tests do carry small risk of miscarriage (like 1% for amnio and 2% for cvs). Some parents have the test because they donot have the wherewithall to care for a severely handicapped child. Some have the test so they can prepare ahead of time. And many choose not to have the tests at all. Its a really personal choice and many times the docs dont evensuggest these tests for women who are under 30 years old. So its not something that you have to go thru unless you want to know for sure.
I had the CVS test for all 3 of mine. I went to a doc who had done literally thousands of these without even one miscarriage so his success rate was 100%. And since the early blood test came up with false positives for downs, we wanted to know. It put our minds at ease.
Re: to All the mothers, doctors, mothers to be, pls help!!!
Mall,
Also make sure to talk the genetic testing over with your husband. Though inshAllah all is well with your little one, if some abnormality does come up, you may be faced with a very difficult decision, and you need to make sure you both are on the same page and are comfortable making that kind of decision.
I did the ultrasound for the nucal fold and all that. We did not do CVS or Amnio.
As for the gestational diabetes test, I would talk to your doctor and do what she recommends. Though a week here or there doesn't make a difference, you're over 10 weeks early if the standard is 24-26 weeks. The results may not be useful at this point.
Re: to All the mothers, doctors, mothers to be, pls help!!!
i am confused here. i thought the syndrome tests r for ladies 30 n up. under 30 they don't offer u one unless ur u/s shows some concern. alo sugar test is more reliable when done later on. if u r concerened talk to ur doc in details. i dunno abt UAE but here they giv u a whole pregnancy step by step guide so u know what to expect per semester and ways to deal with it. it gives details of all tests n available options.
thaz my concern too. i m 25 so i dun think i need to have CVS or amino test. ill still ask doc though.
also for diabetes test, ill ask her if i can have it later or must i have it now.
Re: to All the mothers, doctors, mothers to be, pls help!!!
ok guys i m sharin my ultra sound details.. sahar, MO3 and others tell me wot u think this means: (pls note this is one week old or more report) i will b goin again in week 13.
LMP: 15/6
Clinical age" 17 w 6 days
EDC 22/3/10
US Age: Average - 10 w 6 d
US EDC: 10/5/2010
39.5m (dunno what this is? maybe size of baby??)
Fetal HR: 138
so acc. to this my due date is in may??????? thaz confusing!! what do u all think? isnt it tooo late to b in may?
Re: to All the mothers, doctors, mothers to be, pls help!!!
^ You must've conceived in August, not July, given your EDD. :D
The HR looks good, mA.
^ Y*ou must've conceived in August, not July, given your EDD. *:D

faints no way man!!! in aug??? i didnt have period even then... weird yeah!! but seriously how accurate is the EDD mentioned in this? i mean i calculated and i shud b havin a baby in april max... confused, BIG TIME!
Re: to All the mothers, doctors, mothers to be, pls help!!!
^ How do you know when you ovulated and conceived?
The doctor has better tools to determine this, based on the ultrasound and bloodwork.
Re: to All the mothers, doctors, mothers to be, pls help!!!
oh ok sorry.. so its accurate then huh.
Re: to All the mothers, doctors, mothers to be, pls help!!!
^ I would think so, unless there is a way that you were able to track your ovulation. Besides, with PCOS you know your LMP is not reliable or relevant.
