i haven't seen vanilla bean in any of the big supermarkets here actually... diss.

lusi, extract and essence both have alcomahol in them.

SGC, you can find it in Fortinos and Dominion which is Metro now, by the way. I've bought it a few times from Fortinos which sells 2 vanilla pods in this test-tube shaped jar for around 8 bucks

lusi, i found out vanilla essence and vanilla extract have alcohol! man, am i bummed- i don’t know if it burns off entirely or what. anyone have any ideas?

buying a vanilla pod is sooo pricey! its like $2% for 1 pod at Williams-Sonoma. but i guess i should just make some vanilla sugar with it and start using that.
OR, i could see what they have in dubai and bring back caseloads of it.

Please don’t quote me but I’ve heard a couple of people saying that using alcohol based vanilla essence is fine because it has a little volume of alcohol which evaporates specially when you are cooking it.

wish, i've read not all of it evaporates. at fortinos, eh? haven't seen it at dominion... and theres no fortinos around me, but good to know its there! i'll definitely grab it next time i'm in need.
