Re: Tiramisu

I had it at a friend's place recently, and it was yummy! Here's her recipe. I haven't tried it myself yet, so let me know how it turns out. :-p

** Ingredients:

** 5 Eggs, separated
4-5 Tablespoons Caster sugar (will be better than regular white sugar because it’s finer)
300g Mascarpone Cheese (available at “specialty” Italian stores or supermarkets)
2-4 Tablespoons coffee (instant is okay)
300–400g of sponge finger biscuits
Dark chocolate powder or grated
**
Method:**

  • Beat the egg yolks with sugar until the sugar has dissolved and the mixture is light and fluffy and leaves a ribbon trail when dropped from the whisk (this is the key step – the smoother the texture, the better the final product will be).
  • Add the mascarpone and beat until the mixture is smooth.
  • Whisk the egg whites in a clean dry glass bowl, using a wire whisk or hand beaters, until soft peaks form. Fold into the mascarpone mixture.
  • Mix coffee (about two tablespoons with one tablespoon of caster sugar) with a small amount of water in a mug. When coffee is dissolved, add cold water to fill the coffee mug. Dip enough biscuits to cover the base of a 25 cm dish into the coffee. The biscuits should be fairly well soaked but not so much so that they break up. Arrange the biscuits in one tightly packed layer in the base of the dish.
  • Spread half the mascarpone mixture over the layer of biscuits. Add another layer of soaked biscuits (soaked in a separate dish in coffee – make more coffee mix if needed as per step 4) and then another layer of mascarpone, smoothing the top layer neatly. Dust with powdered chocolate or sprinkle grated chocolate. *]Place in the refrigerator for at least 5 hours or overnight.

Whoopsi!!
I love Tiramisu!!! Thank you so much for the recipie!

Re: Tiramisu

If you really want it to turn out good, don't use instant coffee...buy some coffee that has a really good rich flavor, the quality of coffee shapes the flavor.
Also I have eaten tiramisu cups in the bakery that have sliced strawberries on the bottom, adds a nice touch and contrast flavor.

Some tiramisu’s have rum, depends where you buy it from.
The one from M&M Meats is amazing and doesnt have any alcohol in it.
