Tipsy in Madras: Summer Parties

So my boy and I planning to throw a start of summer party at the house. We both have condos in the same building and a fly roofdeck right in middle of the city. The plan is to throw a party with live music - a string quartet (we have hookups), white attire theme, and Mediterranean food.

The friend is talking care of all the booze (wine, liquor no beer), and I’m holding down the soft drinks. We’ll have 3-4 Muslims (including yours truly) and 1-2 pregnant women so we want to make sure everyone is covered. The food will have many vegetarian options as well.

So the plan is to make it a Friday night after work thing that we are hoping to morph into a late night party, with close friends being more than welcome to sleep in at our houses. We’ll start out with live music, switch it to classical (thinking Vivaldi) followed by a old school hip hop, trance and french jazz all in a mixtape made by this DJ with good taste.

Our goal as hosts is to bring all of our friends together, listen to some good music, and enjoy some great food and drink. So I am trying to work hard to make this party a success and need your advice.

Since I am taking care of the food, I am thinking Lebanese-Greek combo (think lots of olives, feta etc). As for the soft drinks, I am trying tropical fruit juices, pineapple juice etc. We are jointly asking the guests to wear white because it would be fun to have a theme (besides, I want to rock those white pants). I know playing host is not so easy, so we have hired two servers and potentially a bartender - to free us from the food/drink responsibilities. We want everyone to feel welcome and comfortable so we will definitely be circulating amongst the groups of people, making introductions etc.

Am I missing something? Anything to watch out for?

Are we all invited?

You might get better answers here.

Lots of mezza (hot & cold) moutabbal, baba ghanoush, hummus, fattoush. Grilled aubergines, cheese fatayer, zaatar fatayer (pastry).

I don’t know if you’re keen on serving them soup/shourba?

Main: mixed grill, kababs, sheesh ta’wook, kibbeh, lamb chops.

Dessert: assorted baklava, kunaffa

p.s. mail me my invite, shukria!

Sounds like a great mix for a fab party! If people are going to be staying over just make sure you have plans in place for a good breakfast.

Re: Tipsy in Madras: Summer Parties

is this a dinner event or more of a drinks and hors d'oeuvres thing?
if its a mixer, you probably want to avoid having things that will require someone to sit down and eat with a fork and knife.
however, you also dont want to just have people juggling drinks and plates, have some small high tables scattered throughout, so people can put their glasses and plates down as they are talking.

if the plan is more hors d'oeuvres then have some central stations where people can go get stuff but have servers walk through with items every so often, so people who are having a conversation can get more snacks and drinks.

I would sequence the drinks and the snacks with the type of music playing..so as the music theme changes the food and drink changes
