I know that before I was a parent, I used to be really confused when walking into a toy store or children’s department. I would never know what would be a successful gift. Now, I am beginning to appreciate what gifts are the most useful.
**Please share tips for people giving gifts to your child. **I’ll start us off:
When deciding which size clothing to buy, consider what time of year the child will fit into those clothes, particularly if you are buying for an infant.
I once gave a one year old a big box of toys .....
I wrapped a big cardboard box in pretty paper
first I added plastic toys ie a cricket bat, a football, a car ,.different co.loured balls, soft toy etc....
wrap all .these things individually add to big box tie a ribbon and gift away
the child played with these toys the most, inexpensive and safe and he enjoyed opening all the different gifts inside and the family enjoyed watching him open all the different presents.

If I am close to the family I ask them what they need, we don't have gift registeries here. I have given new parents anywhere from clothes, infant bathtub, food cooked for the mother, cash, blankets.
Great topic sahar! I pay more attention to gift giving more than ever now too :)
Like we were so surprised when my daughter got a winter coat (12 months size) as a BD present for her 1st birthday in April, i mean think people think there is no way she can ever wear that, winter already passed like 2 months ago.
If in doubt ask the recieving where they are shopping and buy them a voucher. Or ask if they have a request list of things.
Money seems to frowned upon by some, I personally would prefer for someone to give me say £5.00 if that's all they wish to/can give me rather than buying a dodgy gift I will only bin.
I wouldn't buy a newborn baby clothes-everyone seems to buy them clothes and sometimes mums never get round to using all the clothes because baby grows out of them. So maybe a voucher again.
I'd prefer one quality toy than a pile of items that will be chucked-and that's what I practice when it comes to giving other friends children's presents.
I always check for a baby registry first and buy items off that. If no registry, then I either buy small items and pack them up together as a collection of stuff ... like 3-6 months sized clothes, burp cloths, towels, blankets, etc, or I buy a big-price item like a quality musical mobile, 3 months + toy, bedding set, bouncer, swing, etc.
if im close to the person, i ask. and they always tell me what they want.. ive gifted baby furniture to appliances to anything othr than clothing.
i agre.e. ppl dont think twice bout the age child will be when they get around to wearing the stuff.. recently my sil sent midget summer clothing when summer is already gone. her money went to waste cuz it was all good branded clothing.. sad that i couldnt use them.
if nothing makes sense, i give gift cards for baby stores.
having a baby myself has made it so much easier.. i KNOW what toys work for what age group.. sometimes the age group written on the toy box is SO WRONG. i go from experience...
