Tips for Expat Pakistanis

(* Only for Expat Pakistanis in America*)

  1. when you immigrate forget everything, and by everything I mean ethnic and religious backgrounds.
  2. start fresh, blend into your host society, amalgamate into them, because that is your home, your bread and butter.
  3. Keep remembering why did you leave your native country? Keep remembering the factors that made you to move your post codes nearly half way around the world.
  4. Keep yourself in check, which takes the higher moral ground, whether its your ass old religious/cultural/social views which have shown you suffering to date, or the freedom you seek that made you make the move.
  5. Last but not least, If American foreign policy does conflict with your own views, keep remembering which country would give you more justice, education to your children, rights to you and your family, peace of mind,. And an overall satisfaction, if its USA then DO NOT COMPLAIN.

Re: Tips for Expat Pakistanis

Bhai yahaan GS pe yeh sab kuch kehnay se green card naheen milne waala, yahaan Bush post parrne naheen aata.

How can Pakis forget their religious/cultural views so easy? They don't follow them merely for society so that they'll change them if society changes, they follow them because they believe in them..

I agree that Pakis should contribute positively to whatever country they live in and be loyal to it as long as that doesn't entail injustice... American Pakis have every right to disagree with their goverments' wrong policies, most us Muslims/Pakis condemn both Bush and Laden.

As far as forgetting roots, that's not so easy, I can't speak for American Pakis but it's not so easy in Britain, even if we wanted to be British we're reminded time and time again that we are Pakis, foreigners responsible for every ill in this country whether it's newspaper articles bashing us or old white men at the pub ranting on about how "that bloody Thatcher brought all foreigners here and gave all our jobs to them"..

Changing our culture and identity wont make us any more accepted, white people even have problems with completely secularised/westernised boys of Paki/Muslim origins dating their girls simply because they are of Paki/Muslim origins even though they don't know a thing about their parents culture/religion..

Real life is not as rosy as Hollywood mate, expat Pakis are attached to backhome for a reason.. European people of Polish/German ancestory can merge quite easily because they are White but people from our regions will never be truly accepted, even the athiest/secular Iranians I know who like to think they are Aryan are made a lughng stock of behind their backs..

What great good will be achieved if expat Pakis loose their culture? I know Middle Eastern families who did that but they are left with no identity or sense of belonging because they can never be truly British, Arabs are funny, my friends mom would neck pint after pint but the name of Allaah never left her tongue, "Wallaahi, I swear by my God" between every pint, lol..
