Do you tip your hairdresser, stylist, colorist.. and esthetician? How do you decide on how much to tip?
Re: Tipping?
I decide by what they have done t me.
Re: Tipping?
I feel that I kind of tip a lil higher in the US than I did in UAE, and I think it's got more to do with the expectations of the estheticians, stylists, etc.
Re: Tipping?
I tip everyone - which is why I am so poor.
I tip each person who has provided services on my hair, separately, i.e. the person who washed my hair and the colorist (is the same person as the stylist). I will give the junior a few dollars, maybe $5, but the colorist/stylist earns 15%.
It's funny where I live, people don't usually tip the desi estheticians and the desi ladies don't expect a tip. But since I will go to the gora estheticians and tip them at the standard 15% for services they charges 4 times as much for, when I go to the desi salons, I tip them 15% as well (and it still comes to a fraction of the cost).
Re: Tipping?
my sister tips at pizza hut - 20p ![]()
I don’t tip no one. I haven’t even had a hair cut in 8 months. I usually only go when they send me 50% off txt msgs. which hasnt been for a while now.
Re: Tipping?
I usually do 15% of the price of the service.
Re: Tipping?
It depends on the service. When I get my hair done I can tip anywhere from $10-20. which isn't much compared to the price of the service. It's all I can afford after paying over $100 to get my hair done. :(
I usually tip 15% on meals.
I hardly tip when I get my nails done... I never have a good experience as these women are always talking in their langauge. Whenever I have a request on how I want them done they say "next time". Sometimes they dont even ask me what colors i want for my designs. :(
It depends on the service. If I get good service I will give as much of a tip as I can afford.
This reminds me of a funny story....
I went to the ESPN center with some co-workers a couple of years back. I had such bad service. My food was the last to arrive, when I was one of the first ones to order, and I didn't order anything that took time to cook, infact one of my co-workers ordered the same thing, and hers came out before mine. The waiter actually spilled food on my boss, and she was wearing a white dress. They refused to pay for her dry cleaning bill, instead offered not to charge her for the meal. It was one of those resteraunts where they include about 10% gratuity in the final cost of the bill, AND they have a line underneathe that for tip. My boss wrote don't spill food, on that line. LOL!
Re: Tipping?
i see what everyone is giving. like dhs.5 or dhs.10. i have not given more than dhs.10 to anyone.
An indian palor i went to for long time, i never tipped anyone there coz that was not the riwaaj there :D
I find that it's quite rude to not tip at a desi salon just because that's what they expect. In general if i'm happy with my services 20% is the way to go. when you are talking about just eyebrows that are like $6-8 I will give $2-3 as a tip. I don't think there's anything wrong with tipping a pizza hut delivery guy, i realize there isa delivery charge added to the bill but still... it's customary to me to tip them.
Would you still tip if you weren't satisfied?
Re: Tipping?
The most I tip is 2 Euros.
After all they get mini wages and are dependend on the tips.
Would you still tip if you weren't satisfied?
I'm too nice I'll atleast leave $2 :D
Re: Tipping?
50p to the hairdresser thas if shes done a gud job
Re: Tipping?
I tip between $15 - $20 for my hairdresser and the shampoo girl gets $5.
I also tip $5 at the nail salon.
Re: Tipping?
in uk i don't tip. nor do i know anyone who does. they automatically charge an additional service charge of 10% to the total bill in restaurants anyway.
in america, i have learnt it is rude to NOT tip! but i still don't tip if i don't want to. this is my choice really. if the service is excellent, then i have tipped many times. but if i am not satisfied with the service then i never tip.
but now what i do is i collect all my loose change and small notes and put them in a money box. you wouldn't believe how much you can collect like this! then once it is full, i give all that money to my local mosque. or you can give to a muslim charity etc.
Re: Tipping?
It's expected in the US...I typically do 20% of the cost of the service as a baseline. If I'm really happy with the result, I'll go as high as 25% (I love my hair stylist and always do 25%). If I'm not particularly pleased, I'll give 15%.
I can't go lower than 15%, because many those people are actually paid less than minimum wage with the expectation that they will receive 15% tips on the revenue they generate...so I personally can't justify leaving less than that.
Would you still tip if you weren't satisfied?
I think that if you are unsatisfied nd you talk to the person that gave you the service like a haircut then either they need to fix it so you are satisfied and won't have to pay someone else to re-do the cut or if i didn't want to let them cut even more off of my hair i'll just tell them i'm sorry in the past i enjoyed my experience with them but i'm really not happy. I will tip them the minimum 10% because they did still spend time on me and not have as many customers. also my hair is like to my hips so both ways a person deserves something for working with it :)
now if it's like a restaurant and the waitstaff didn't take proper care of us, showed us rudeness and gave me an unpleasant experience then I would leave them either 10% at most or nothing. There have been times when I left nothing and even told a manager about why i'm not going to be tipping. Many times management will try to fix things so it's always important as a customer to speak up.

Agree. I do a 20% tip as well.
Re: Tipping?
The salon I go to doesn't allow tips . So I have never given one and neither have seen anyone giving it.
Usually tip about 15-20%
