Timing the contractions ..

Re: Timing the contractions ..

You know now when I think about it all, I could’ve done it all alone without my husband being there. I had no other family memebers, it was just me and my husband. And of course he was half asleep from working a night shift. He went home to sleep when it was time for the baby to come out. He wanted to be there obviously so I told the doctor to wait (she wanted to up my dose of pitocin). And like khawa I was given epidural twice because of prolong labor. By the time he made it to the hospital, I started getting temperature and my baby’s heartbeat was all over. Yes I blame it all on my husband. Needless to say, my son stayed in NICU for 3 days. My hubby didn’t bother doing anything, lol. Just stood there. Andddddd he is a doctor.. so yeah :disgust:

Re: Timing the contractions ..

i had back labour, so could not be on my back bt sides and each time i had contraction he would rub my back. i was 8.5cm by 10am diluated so we thought she will be out by 1.30pm Jumma time. he missed his Jummah and she was born 6pm by c section.

i dont wat i said to him as i was given gas and i went wild on it..haha he still laughs abt it and i told him i want to b alone next time so he wont be able to laugh at me.

Re: Timing the contractions ..

1- What is this breathing technique that everyone keeps talking about? any specific youtube videos that you guys think will be helpful ?
**
i found this on youtube and was very helpful… Breathing and Relaxation Techniques During Childbirth - YouTube
i practiced few weeks before my due date…and there were videos of classes too on youtube…they were very helpful…
the key is concentrate on your breathing and dont think much about contractions and pains…

like others said i also forgot about these techniques after 6cm but nurses were there to remind me....**.:D

2- Best way to time the contractions? actually you guys need to tell me all that you know about contractions .. from the last thread I know now how it can possibly feel when the contractions begin .. but usually how long before delivery can these start? and when they do start how far apart are they ?

** i had my 39weeks appointment on 39weeks 5days…i dont remember why…anyways my doctor checked me and i was 1cm dilated and contractions were there but i wasnt feeling them at all…next day i was very active cooking cleaning walking…as i knew that i’m going to go in active labor soon…
at nite around 1 am i started to feel contractions but pain was bearable so i let my husband sleep and we went to hospital at 7am…
i was shocked to see that i was 2cm dilated only with so much pain n tummy contracting…
we came home and we started to time them…
just note the time when the contraction is over and start again…like if i got contractions at 1:00 pm it got over at 1:01 pm…n then started again at 1:15 pm… so they are fifteen minutes apart

slowly slowy they will get closer when time passes…like 10minutes apart then 5minutes apart…
that is the time when you should call the nurse when they are 5minutes apart…

i called at that exact time reached hospital got myself checked i was 6cm n got admitted to delivery room…**

Like, can they start two weeks before? and maybe have several hours gap between each ? then they slowly start getting more frequent and painful? is that how it works?
its different for everyone…it can take a week too

3- Oh and most importantly : what do husbands do during the delivery phase? other then acting all dizzy and fainting etc .. are there any tips I need to give husband .. I want him equally prepared , coz in this case he actually thinks birthing is a piece of cake :emmy: So I want to let him know before hand what is expected of him while I pop the baby out :hinna: all tips are welcome

**oh my husband was veryyyyyyyy helpful!!! Alhumdulillah!!!
he was such a great support i still thank him for his great bravery he has shown lol

luckily my L&D were on weekend so my husband was free!!! he was continuously rubbing my back at home and at hospital…n telling me that i can do it while i was pushing…

i showed him videos of real childbirth on youtube…normal delivery,c-section,epidural all of them so he had clear idea that what was going to happen…

Alhumdulillah he was there for me throughout!**

Re: Timing the contractions ..

lol why would she scream? its not like the nurses and doctors leave the room- they’re standing right there while the dad cuts the cord! :stuck_out_tongue:
they’re not nalaaiq, woman, and neither is your husband! let him do that if its his wish. its a big deal for him too, ya know?

my hubby didn’t want to- he was squeamish about the whole thing but he went with the kid for his circumcision and that gets him points in my book! i couldn’t have done that at all.

he was a rock during labour. i couldn’t have gone through it without him! he stayed with me every single minute of it and was right by my side for the c-section. he saw the kiddo first when they pulled him out and he got to hold him first too. he kept looking at him and saying, my boy, my boy. it was amazing.

khawa, lol. i know you gave birth but i feel for your hubby and his tears! awww.

Re: Timing the contractions ..

My husband was watching Jerry Springer while I labored (pun intended) through with our first one…and when the BIG contractions started hitting he was fixated on the monitor and kept yelling “THAT was a big one!”

No sh$t Sherlock :vivo:

I’ve never wanted to hit someone so hard in my entire life

Re: Timing the contractions ..

My husband cut the cord with our first one, but did not get to with the twins. He was there during the delivery of course, but because of how fast it all happened he was in charge of keeping me as calm as possible

Re: Timing the contractions ..

i just teared up a little- so sweet

Re: Timing the contractions ..

^ Yeah, that set me off too then. I bawled for the next 20 minutes before passing out from relief and the sweet, sweet drugs in my system :stuck_out_tongue:
