All along I was under the impression that the time for Isha salah lasts till right before Fajr. On the contrary, I came across a view that suggests that the time for Isha is till midnight. I believe there are two opinions/views. I think the other one suggests that you can pray before Fajr starts and it would still be okay.
midnight looks good, but how did they measure the time in the days of the Prophet (saw) to know when midnights falls....
i dont think they used clocks/watches at that time....
I can’t get you a source at the moment, but the one that I follow is that Isha time goes until Fajr time, and the later you make it, the better it is. This is aside from the 20 minutes or so for being on the safe side, for instance what they put on some calendars for suhoor time. I’ve heard this from a scholar but never asked for a reference.
armughal, even if they didn't have clocks, I'm sure they must've had some method to calculate time.
TerribleGuy, see if you can find something, insha'Allah. I recall delaying Isha salah; however, to the best of my knowledge, that time was used to offer ibaadah, which I believe was followed by Isha salah and Allahu aalim.
Isn't midnight a concept that only came about after the 24-hour clock?
Given that 12 o'clock midnight did not exist at the time of the Prophet (saws), I've always been confused as to how people can say you should pray before midnight.
Or is midnight halfway between whenever Isha time is and fajr time?
The other says it's OK if you pray it before Fajr...
Which has more stronger Dalils?
yaar research kay baghair my knowledge only:
if u havent prayed? isha n u sleep n wake up sometime before fajar then its qaza,if u dont sleep but pray late then its not qaza.but its recommended kah ''awaal'' waqt hi parh laini chahiye.
I asked my sheikh, who is a hanafi scholar and a graduate of Islamic Univ of Madeenah and this is what he said.
It is afzal if you pray Isha before midnight, but the time for isha lasts until Fajr.
Now when is midnight? No its not always 12am. Midnight is half way between, when the sun sets completely (this is when Maghrib time ends) and Fajr time.
So if the sun sets at 7pm and Fajr is at 6am, midnight will be at 12.30am.
Notice you dont use Isha time for for finding out when the night begins, because Isha Azaan is usually given a bit after the night starts.
Lajawab, I've merged your thread with the one I started a while back, as they both revolve around the timing for Isha salah. Hope that's okay with you.

I apologize in advance, but "isha time" doesn't depend on whether you sleep or not and what time you sleep.
Though Isha is not 'qaza' until Fajr time begins, following is another recommendation for 'best time for Isha':
Divide time after maghrib (beginning of darkness) till Fajr time into 3. Best time for Isha is 1st part of the 3 (the earlier the merrier I blv), sleep the 2nd part and 3rd part is for tahajjud.
