Times have changed!/Inzimam as captain. (Merged)

My 2 cents even though we will win the series (Inshallah) against NZ but not because of Inzi infect he have tried everything (except his batting, I am talking about his Captaincy) to lose the series. I think there is something going on between Inzi and Javaid seems like they don't like each other. For instace when yesterday at the end of 4th day PAK required only 28 rusn to win and they had the option to bat for extra half an hour, Javaid waved to Youhana trying to say keep on batting and finish it off today but Inzi didn't even look at Javaid and walk towards the pavillion after the intial overs have been completed. It was like I will get the extra time if I feel like not just because you (Javaid) says so.

Anyway bottom line is Inzi is not a good captain or maybe I should say not an agressive captain he is very laid back like his batting ;)

Inzi is a 'soost tareen' type of captain. He stands at slip like it's the most boringest thing he's doing. When batting he's very very lazy.

Everything about this guy makes him lazy. The way he looks, the way he talks, way he walks, etc.

He makes Pakistan look bad. At least don't be lazy!

PC, since when did you start following Inzamam's career that makes Pakistan look bad?

lol

Answer this question then, do you think Inzamam has the traits to be a suitable captain?
How do you compare him to the rest of the captains in the world currently? eg, Waugh/Ponting, Ganguly, Fleming, Smith, etc.

I'm not saying he's a BAD batsman. Yet, there is a big difference in being a captain and being a good batsman. Look at Tendulkar, he may be a great batsman but he just couldn't cut it as a captain.

PC. Keep yourself on the same page, Man. Didn't you say "When batting he's(Inzi) very very lazy"? You shouldn't have made that statement in the first place without knowing the FACTS.

Re: Captain. I never said he is a good Captain neither I am ruling out he can't be a leader for the side.

Escape to victory
The Wisden Verdict on Inzamam’s captaincy by Kamran Abbasi

December 30, 2003

Amid the euphoria of Pakistan’s dramatic victory over New Zealand at Welllington there is an Inzy in the ointment.

Inzamam-ul-Haq’s captaincy is a paradox. His batting has reached new heights of responsibility, authority, and crisp-footed strokeplay - off the back foot, at least. As a batsman he has become a true leader. In the field, however, Pakistan’s languid captain is sleeping on the job.

There isn’t enough encouragement of team-mates. Rarely do you see Inzy jogging to his bowler to offer a word of wisdom or plan strategy. There are few councils of war, group pressure that might force Inzy to react in some way to a crisis. In the field Pakistan are like a rudderless ship drifting through a session.

Clearly there is some discussion of strategy with Javed Miandad before play and at intervals, but Inzy seems to have forgotten the plan within a few overs - or his decision-making process is paralysed by an unexpected turn of events.

If Shoaib Akhtar was the difference between the two sides in this short series, Inzy’s indifference was a vital element that brought them closer together. As New Zealand struggled in their first innings to register much above 200, Inzamam bowled Shabbir Ahmed and Danish Kaneria for almost a whole session between lunch and tea. They didn’t bowl badly - but they weren’t taking wickets.

Inzamam did, after all, have Shoaib and Mohammad Sami at his disposal. This was not just lack of imagination, but a complete failure of captaincy, and it helped New Zealand to 366. Inzamam has yet to show much understanding of tactics in the field, or the art of inspired bowling changes. This is a worry for Pakistan. Good teams only become world-beating ones through outstanding leadership, with West Indies and Australia being the finest recent examples.

The second blunder occurred at the end of the fourth day. Pakistan needed 28 to win, and instead of claiming extra time on a fine evening, Inzamam, who was batting, sauntered off to the dressing-room. The weather forecast for the final day promised rain and bad light. Battlefield generals have been executed for less - at least Inzamam was so churned up about his goof-up that he missed breakfast on the final morning.

Luckily, the final outcome was still the one Pakistan wanted. This is a good Pakistan side, but the question is whether or not it is in the hands of a duffer. Many deficiencies can be put right. Leadership, however, requires natural aptitude, and I worry that Inzamam doesn’t have it. Pakistan must devise a better plan to support him.

Wisden

Thats pretty harsh. I am not sure if I would appreciate that write-up if I were Inzi.

Can anyone tell me why Shawn Polluck lost his job as a captain?

There is no room for such errors at International level. Inzi is lucky the final day wasn't washed out.

Inzi is one of the best batsmen Pakistan has produced. He scored at almost 100% strike rate even with his 'laziness' but you need more than an experienced player to captain the side and represent your country.

You need a motivator, fighter and a leader. Some people have to learn these traits and some are born with ‘em. Looking at the current side, I only see Moin Khan who possesses these qualities. I'm not sure what Moin's past record is as a Pakistan captain but to me he is the guy who can demand respect, fight and make his presence known.

Moin's in the team...y not make him the captain.

Pakistan Tiger, first thing is when batting, it just doesn't depend on slogging a ball all over the field.
Batting just doesn't mean putting some pads and gloves on and going out to the middle. It means being able to face the attack, play the shots, run between wickets effectively, good calling, etc.
Without running, how else will he be able to score the runs?

Might I remind you he is not the best runner, infact quite lazy.

The truth is, having these traits doesn't make a leader. Being a leader you have to be always on your feet, always active, good communication, etc.

Now you will pull out the STATISTICS of him batting, we will be all amused with those... BUT pull out the STATS for his running then we will see his laziness.

Give the captaincy to the one and only Moin Khan. Unfortunately he was out of cricket for such a long time. Now that finally Rashid is gone (hopefully forever) Moin can be designated captain.

PC, at first my intentions were not about Inzi's captaincy. Heck he ran himself out, holds a record of it but you do see him having more runs scored in both forms of Cricket. Btw, when was the last time Inzi run out?

*And if you can't score runs without running between the wickets, you can always put the ball over the fence. Inzi is best at slogging the ball, so he prefers to do that. *

I said it again, and I am telling you again, I don't wanna count out Inzi too early because honestly I don't count chickens before they hatched. As the Pakistan Cricket have been in disarrary over the decade, having 17 captains and different coaches, I feel this is the time not to make things worst when they are good.

Remember, Inzi didn't want to become a captain. It was PCB who made him. So, as he has made mistakes early in his captaincy stage, hopefully he will learned from it and developed himself as a leader, good speaker{Hmmm his English has improved}. Generally, it takes pressure and time. That's what it really takes to be a leader IMO....PRESSURE and TIME.

Point out his shortcomings by all means but also keep in mind his achievements.

inzi is no doubt learnng more as a cpatian. once there was a time when he was by no means an option, but any how he is doing good and will improve becoming a "world class captian" as ganguly.

good luck inzi
