Time to convert all Madrassahs into schools, fire Mullahs & hire "educated" teachers

End of Pakistani style Madrassahs is near.

It is now clear as a sun that madrassahs are creating, protecting, and propagating Islamist extremists. Yes some madrassah may not be doing it. But why to allow a failed concept to survive in Pakistan anyway.

Time to convert all the Madrassahs regardless of their faith. These madrassahs should be under direct control of, and should be paid by the state education departments. And sure one of the teachers could be a Maulvi sahib. However the control and funding of these new schools should be in the government’s hand.

Teacher like zardaree, gilani, sherirahman,or like farook nike and babar awan.

Re: Time to convert all Madrassahs into schools, fire Mullahs & hire "educated" teach

No no. Poshy here wants teachers that bomb Pakistani women and children in FATA.

Is this your vision, mission or day-dreaming?

There is a slight glitch here. Where is all the extra-funding going to come from?

It is all very well saying do this and that (and I agree that these madrassahs should be reformed or replaced by ‘proper’ schools) but where is the money? Where are the teachers?

And as for syllabus I believe Javed Ashraf Qazi the former education minister had revised the whole primary and secondary school curriculum incl. madrassahs on orders of Mush. So why do we still have this problem?

Do you even realise that our export-import deficit for the first 6 months of the current fiscal year is $9+ billion dollars!!

In such difficult times when our government is cash-strapped and there is global recession who is going to help us?

And burqa contrary to what you may think of him, this is Imran Khan in 2005 and I think his points are still valid now

“There are almost a million madrassa students in Pakistan. Are they all terrorists? Of course not. And why did the madrassas not produce any militants before the Afghan jihad when they have existed in the subcontinent for centuries? The state school structure in Pakistan is in a mess. Madrassas are the only means through which poor families can educate their children. In my constituency in Mianwali, 70 per cent of the state schools are closed, mainly because there are no teachers. What are the people supposed to do there if they do not send their children to the charity-run religious schools? Certainly some madrassas do preach hate against other sects, and they should have been closed a long time ago, And there needs to be modernisation of the syllabus of Pakistan’s entire education system, madrassas included. Unfortunately, General Musharraf’s hands are tied. He is seen as a stooge of the anti-Islamic Americans. He lacks the moral authority to reform the madrassas or take on the sectarian militants. Sadly, he is more likely to exacerbate both militancy in our society and anti-American feelings.”

Re: Time to convert all Madrassahs into schools, fire Mullahs & hire "educated" teach

So, the points raised here, some are very valid.

This is what's going on.

People believe that since the government's hands are tied and they are underfunded, (which third world country isn't?), they cannot possibly reform the education system amply because that would involve too much money. Counterpoint: The fact that our import:export ratio is in our disfavor is precisely because of the lack of education in the country. If people are not schooled properly and do not have command of the majority of languages in which business is being done internationally these days (Arabic doesn't count as one of them), then how can you possibly believe that our import:export levels will change? We can't export because we can't even communicate properly with the people doing international business - they laugh at the way our people talk! Including the burger families who think they are oh so hot with their English - because donkeys could speak better English if they were taught. That's how bad the delusions are amongst the rich in Pakistan. They think that their Grammar School/Convent school education had given them some superiority of the English language, and let me tell you, when I hear these people speaking English I cringe. I'm Pakistani living abroad, and I will have you know, I wouldn't even do business with Pakistanis in Pakistan - and the language is one big reason. You can't learn English right, and you think I'm going to expect you'll put as much effort into your business? No thanks, I don't want that business.

Point 2: Madrassas are providing a big chunk of society SOME education, and if you were to take that away, the catastrophe would be worse and EVEN MORE people would be joining terrorist organizations. You know why? Because Pakistanis cannot follow rules. The only madrassas that would get shut down in that event would be the honest ones - the ones that are actually being used by terrorists would never get shut down - which would mean that if you're poor and you need to send your kid to a school, you don't even have the luxury anymore of picking a GOOD enlightened madrassa to send your kid to --> that equals more terrorists in the long run.

Why do we have a teacher shortage? Its because we don't have enough educated people in the country in the first place to teach. The teachers that do teach, esp in government schools have low wages. Yes, the government doesn't have the money to put into education, but they found money for Ghauri and other crap that's used to destroy human life, right? They couldn't find any money to actually BUILD lives.

That's why I keep saying - let go of Kashmir. Its downing us. Its the reason we don't have money on anything else, because its the biggest source of our spending: defense. And the defense stems from the constant skirmishes with the Indian border.

Until education is fully reformed in Pakistan, terrorism will never end. This much is true. But what's not true, is the idea that shutting every institution down and creating government schools will solve the problem. Because mullah that was teaching in Madrassah will now teach the same message in government school. Because the war has already begun, and now undoing a primary cause of the war wont stem it - you think people will stop being anti-American and angry at the West just because you put them in a government school? Try telling that to a kid who lost his family, and now the mullahs have already brainwashed them, that it was all because of America's fitnati greed. You think you'll change his mind by putting him in a government school. The only thing that might change, is that a few of the terrorist goons might join domestic terror-driven political parties, like the PPP or MQM or PML.

Terror is a way of the land, unfortunately, and even kids produced from non-madrassah schools aren't coming out to be well-educated and enlightened. Everyone in the country these days is pretty jaahil.

I think we need to look deeper than education. This has a lot to do with our culture and our current mindset.
