time schedule for a reception

This is for all the OCD organized brides like me…what was the time schedule for your wedding and how did it actually turn out. I am trying to create a time chart for groom’s entrance, bride’s entrance, picture taking slot, dinner, cake cutting, dancing/hanging out time, and rukhsati but I’m not entirely sure how much time each “section” of the wedding should be alotted. For example, I’m thinking dinner is the longest but if I need rukhsati to be before midnight, and dinner is served at 9, can I really expect ppl to be done eating and then satisfied with the general dancing part so that they don’t complain that the event was “too short” if i get rukhsatified at 11:30pm? Can anyone speak from experience about how it all usually goes down?

p.s. i know weddings usually go past midnight, but the hall managers gave us 12:30 am to be the latest time to exit. When I complained its too short, he said I can start as early as I want, 3pm to be exact. So on the invites, I’ve written down 6pm as start time, which means that most guests will show up at 7 and the really late comers should be there by 8pm.

Re: time schedule for a reception

dinner should start at 8:30. you've given guests a two hour headstart, for crying out loud.

i'd say it should go as follows:

bride and groom's entrance: 8-8:30
dinner: 8:30-10 including dessert
speeches and first dance commence at 10:15
rukhsati at 11:30

our schedule was as follows:

ceremony- 5:30-6
dinner- 6:30. we had a sweet table which they put out around 8.
speeches, first dance, general dancing/revelry- 8
cake cutting- 9
everyone went home around- 11/12
