I read earlier this hadith which I would like to share here. In Book ‘Fasting’ of Sahih Bukhari, Hadith No. 144: Narrated Anas: Zaid bin Thabit said, “We took the Suhur with the Prophet . Then he stood for the prayer.” I asked, “What was the interval between the Suhur and the Adhan?” He replied, “The interval was sufficient to recite fifty verses of the Quran.”
And I remember when I was in Pakistan, our Imam Masjid use to announce long before Adhan that “Hazraat Sehri ka waqt khatam hogiya hy”.
I think we should not continue eating during Adhaan.
sorry for the delayed reply. Here are my thoughts:
The main source of as when should we stop eating for sahar is following Quranic verse
2:187) …..And eat and drink until the white thread of dawn becomes distinct to you from the black thread [of night]…..
Mostly, molvi sahibaan give azaan way before dawn. to explain my point here is a hadith from bukhari
Volume 1, Book 11, Number 591: Narrated Salim bin Abdullah:
**My father said that Allah’s Apostle said, “Bilal pronounces Adhaan at night, so keep on eating and drinking (Suhur) till Ibn Umm Maktum pronounces Adhaan.” Salim added, “He was a blind man who would not pronounce the Adhaan unless he was told that the day had dawned.”
**
so please note that there is no direct correlation between azaan and stop eating, it is the time mentioned in 2:187 that matters and the above hadith is quite self-explanatory from that perspective
I think what we required here is to understand about the ‘dawn (Subah Sadiq)’, which will help us to know what is the exact time of Suhur. There are many hadiths pertaining to Suhur timings which I’m reading, but haven’t finished reading yet but none of these hadiths differs with what you wrote above and I agree with your thoughts.
Do share your knowledge about ‘dawn (Subah Sadiq)’, if any, and in the meanwhile I’ll finish reading all hadiths (as much I have) and will get back to you.
More I eat, more my body will crave for food, and more hungry I will feel during fast. And whether we stop eating after adhaan or before, we eventually have to stop eating. So why not have a portion control, eat limited, and stop five minutes before adhan, so one has time to brush teeth and do wudoo
In general, yes we can say that as you said. However, if we want to give knowledge or get knowledge, then we must share in accordance of the Qur’an and hadiths.
