How long does it take for you to complete a suparah? It takes me 25 to 35 minutes depending on which suparah it is…some people at Quran kanis read extremely fast, and it puts other ladies on edge to finish fast.
Re: time it takes to complete a suparah...
i finish in about 30-40 minutes depending how slow or fast i read...alHamdolillah. i usually stop to for a sec or two to make sure i read some difficult words correctly.
Re: time it takes to complete a suparah...
Well Quran should be read properly. But i like to take my time reading..usually say 30 mins. Not that..i don't read well. But i like to emphasize on words..
Re: time it takes to complete a suparah...
30-40 Minutes.
Re: time it takes to complete a suparah...
I never understood the obsession people (mostly ladies) have with how much time it takes them to finish a Suparah.
It does NOT matter how much time it takes. What really matters is that you understand what you are reading. Since I don't speak Arabic (unfortunately) I would read the orignal plus the translation along with it.
Reading a Suparah in 20/30/40 minutes and not understanding what it actually says seems very pointless to me. But that's exactly what happens at most Quran Khaani's.
Re: time it takes to complete a suparah...
^Very good point. I understand quaranic arabic so it is ok for me. :)

Peace polished gems,
May I ask what is the purpose of Quran kanis?
Re: time it takes to complete a suparah...
Lethal kamikaze it is when people gather around and complete the reading of the Quran with the intention to make a prayer/dua at the end. Usually these occasions are held for the recently deceased, a sick persons well being, or even starting a life in a new home. At least that has been my exposure to it, usually dinner follows.
Re: time it takes to complete a suparah...
The idea is not to 'finish' reading Quran, but to READ it. If one can READ 5% of it with some understanding, for me it is so much better than 'finishing' whole of it without understanding a word. What's the point?
Re: time it takes to complete a suparah...
^ complete reading the Quran I typed from my phone its not very clear. I agree with you wholeheartedly I always stress quality of understanding in religion vs. quantity but that is not how the general population views it. They find it more admirable when the quantity is great.
Re: time it takes to complete a suparah...
Peace polished gems,
I'm not saying that gathering for 'Quran kani' is wrong but I prefer to give 'Sadqa' rather than such gathering. Sadqa positively removes misfortunes (if any) whereas 'Quran kani' only effects as 'sawab in our amal' in case if one read it correctly.
Re: time it takes to complete a suparah...
Lethal kamikaze I agree too because it truly helps, we gave sadqa too. I try to give regularly too.

Peace polished gems,
May I ask one more question? waise dinner mein kiya hy (1) chicken biryani (2) kaabli pallaow? :)
j/k j/k
Re: time it takes to complete a suparah...
:) Depending on the occasion you attend for it is elaborate or simple, the most recent occasion called for a simple menu so we had, matar pulao, chickpeas salan, mutton salan, chutney, naan, salad, and sweet rice. Chicken biryani=happy occasion
Re: time it takes to complete a suparah...
May Allah bring happy occasions then we will complete a Quran, pray and eat chicken biryani. :)
Re: time it takes to complete a suparah...
Peace polished gems,
Usually what I have seen after finish reading the Qur'an, dinner is served. What if right after finishing it one may give a short lecture (in general talk) about benefit of reading Holy Qur'an, understanding it, teaching it how to read etc., etc.,
This discussion will go on till the guest are there :)
Re: time it takes to complete a suparah...
A discussion would be nice, but people usually don't come on time in the first place the time of the scheduled event would need to be extended, but as I described has been the norm as per what I have been exposed to. :)
Re: time it takes to complete a suparah...
At Quran khaanis, my goal is to read my part right rather than read it for the heck of it a ton of times. Then there are some people who read Quran a lot and have developed greater speed as they pretty much know what's coming next so they can read it right and fast at the same time. I'm not there yet. Still working on it.
Re: time it takes to complete a suparah...
^Agree that is what I do too, but I noticed others put more emphasis on how much people read and marvel their reading speed which is also worthy of admiration. My speed is average too... if I really focus and get completely engrossed (which is not something I can necessarily force) , my speed increases . And it's true the more frequently you read the more well versed you get.
Re: time it takes to complete a suparah...
Peace,
I think my speed faster when I read orally compairing it while reading from the book i.e., Qur'an. :)
