I started using Google Cloud Connect about 4 months ago, but today was the first instance where it really really paid off. Had to work with two guys to finish a conference poster for tomorrow. I asked them to install Google Cloud Connect for MS Office.
Man, did it speed things up! no more emails back and forth, and no more frustration with things you can’t do in Google Docs.
Google Cloud Connect rocks!’
In the next couple of years, if this becomes mainstream, it’ll be one of those things you’ll ask yourself how you did without it in the first place.
Re: Time Crunch ? Collaborate? Google Cloud Connect!
What kind of frustrations did you feel with Google Docs that this didn’t have? I’ve been using Google Docs and I agree there is a slight disconnect with MS Office. Even Docs.com has some caveats that I’d rather not use. Then there is the Microsoft connect something or the other and it is slow.
I’m going to install this now and see how it looks.
Re: Time Crunch ? Collaborate? Google Cloud Connect!
Tofi, I usually work with Excel Worksheets and Google Docs doesn’t have all the data management and decision-analysis functions that I need to use. Also, in Word, my tables always get screwed up when I upload the document to Google Docs. No more of this cuz I can work in my local environment and keep syncing the documents online through the plugin.
Re: Time Crunch ? Collaborate? Google Cloud Connect!
Ok, so the sync is a bit faster than Microsoft Skydrive version. But once you get used to the real-time collaboration on Google Docs this seems a bit archaic. But i do agree that you can take advantage of all MS Office functionality.
Re: Time Crunch ? Collaborate? Google Cloud Connect!
like I said, it’s more for advanced features that Google Docs can’t handle. It’s still near-real-time and if you’re collaborating with someone on a presentation then you can work on different slides and help each other fix theirs without problems.
I see a lot of utility for mgmt consultants, research teams, lawyers and other knowledge intensive and collaborative work roles.
