how much of a gap should there be between the current namaz and the next?
ie. lets say Asr is at 3.30… can you pray Zuhr till 3.20? or should there be at least 45min to 1hr gap?

I don’t have any references but I guess the diff between the current and the next namaz is approx. two hours…(please correct me if I’m wrong)
good question though…:k:
Take care & Allah Hafiz.

ive always thought an hour is ok, bummer..
You’re welcome. I guess we were both wrong. :S
“The time for Zuhr prayer starts with the decline of the sun and continues until the start of the time of ASR prayer.”
From Islam.com
Hope this helps.
JazakAllah.
thanx CA :)
p.s the link isnt working i think
it says that u cant pray isha after midnight... i didnt know that was the case... in pakistan a lot of people pray Isha namaz after midnight.. hmm
^^ * The time for Esha namaz {salaat} commences after the disappearance of the twilight and remains until *before the break of dawn. *
It is advised to delay the Esha Salaat until one third of the night, it's also permissible to delay until half the night and disliked thereafter without any valid reason in Shari’ah.

Yeah, many Pakistanis pray at different timings and in many different ways as we can realize that there are 72+ sects of Islam. However, the majority of Pakistanis are sunni and according to their sect Isha can be offered til midnight(some sunni schools have different time schedule also). By the way, as far as I know shia Muslims can pray joint namaz...for ex, zuhr with Asr...their timings of namaz are different than that of sunnis..and also I think according to them praying namaz at the prescribed time is recommended but it's not very stressed or held too important...So maybe the people you saw in Pakistan were shias or maybe they were praying "Witr" namaz....a lot of possibilities you see.

Combining prayers is not just a shia thing..its actually permissible to make it easier for the muslims. You will find it in your hadiths. However I have been told there is more sawab if you pray at five different times.
thanx CA
actually, they werent shias but my cousins :) and na they werent praying Witr... and a lot of the muslims here in melbourne pray Isha in full (not kaza) after midnight. Previously, i used to pray kaza for Isha after midnight... but i think it may have been Farhat Hashmi who said you can pray Isha till fajr (not sure)
thanks sherry...yeah, i think in one sunni school too it is allowed to pray joint namaz(correct me if I'm wrong)...I was just explaining to her that diff sects have diff rules for praying.
