Very nice guy, passed away suddenly at work. Can’t believe it.
=======================================
NBC journalist Tim Russert has died of an apparent heart attack.
During a special report, Longtime NBC anchor Tom Brokaw said Russert was working when he collapsed.
Russert, host of Meet the Press since 1991, was 58.
According to NBC’s website, Russert serves as senior vice president and Washington bureau chief of NBC News.
Russert joined NBC News in 1984. In April 1985, he supervised the live broadcasts of the Today program from Rome, negotiating and arranging an appearance by Pope John Paul II, a first for American television. In 1986 and 1987 Russert led NBC News week-long broadcasts from South America, Australia and China.
In 2008, Time Magazine named him one of the 100 most influential people in the world.
Brokaw says Russert’s death came during a political campaign that “he loved.” He called Russert a “beloved colleague” and “one of the premier journalists of our time.”
“Tim was the best of our profession," Bob Schieffer, CBS News Chief Washington Correspondent and host of Face the Nation said upon hearing the news of Russert’s death."
"He asked the best questions and then he listened for the answer. We became very close friends over the years. He delighted in scooping me and I felt the same way when I scooped him. When you slipped one past ol’ Russert, you felt as though you had hit a home run off the best pitcher in the league. I just loved Tim and I will miss him more than I can say, and my heart goes out to his son, Luke, and his wife, Maureen.”
