UPDATE FROM EAT-HALAL.COM

Gelatin in new Tim Hortons dessert

(June 25, 2005) Yogurt and berries may sound like a good combination, but they're not so good at Tim Hortons.

At least not for Muslims.

A concerned Muslim tipped off eat-halal.com about the fact that the new Yogurt & berries dessert at the donut and coffee chain contains gelatin. A company representative has confirmed that animal-derived gelatin is used in the yogurt.

Gelatin is an odorless, tasteless, protein substance obtained by boiling the bones, hoofs, and other waste parts of animals. It can also be derived from fish.

The ingredient should be avoided by Muslims unless it is derived from fish or from Halal, Zabihah animals.

Therefore, Muslim are advised to refrain from indulging in the new Yogurt & berries dessert at Tim Hortons.

Re: Tim Horton’s Lovers CAUTION

So ur saying its okay the gelatin is halal if its derived from a non-zabiha cow?

Re: Tim Horton's Lovers CAUTION

^ oh sorry, tis true. I personally eat non-zabiha meat, hency my statement. For the more strict muslim, animal-derived gelatin in general is no good.

Re: Tim Horton’s Lovers CAUTION

Are you a muslim lady ? :rotfl:

Re: Tim Horton's Lovers CAUTION

^ Don't judge. Last I checked, you weren't God.

Re: Tim Horton's Lovers CAUTION

Im glad you checked. Im not judging anyone, im merely taking your statement and laughing at the fact that it applies to you too since you yourself are muslim, and hopefully a lady, though a judgemental one at that.

Re: Tim Horton's Lovers CAUTION

She's Muslim for sure, but as her nick clearly states, she is a Gudia rather than Lady ;)

Re: Tim Horton's Lovers CAUTION

gosh, pakis just love to fight. Sheesh, this was just an FYI, pay attention to it, or ignore it.

Re: Tim Horton's Lovers CAUTION

^^

It's tradition, hush :p

Re: Tim Horton's Lovers CAUTION

Oh...this is just great. I hate this gelatin dealio. Screw this...i'm eating all the yogurts and rice crispies i want to. The gelatin probably makes up for less than 0.1% of the yougurt anyways. I will make up for it by donating a buck to a charity or something.

Re: Tim Horton’s Lovers CAUTION

Now that’s Kool. Amen to that.

Re: Tim Horton's Lovers CAUTION

Just got off the phone with Tim Hortons CS/Nutritionist. According to her the source of gelatin is animal-based and most likely pork.

Re: Tim Horton's Lovers CAUTION

Isn't all geltin animal based? The plant based matter that carries out the same function is pectin.

Re: Tim Horton’s Lovers CAUTION

yup!

Re: Tim Horton's Lovers CAUTION

Mad_Scientist: guess so, but I usually call and check anyway.

Re: Tim Horton’s Lovers CAUTION

greatt  i was planning to get one today. I tried it few weeks ago and it was soooo good :crying:

Re: Tim Horton’s Lovers CAUTION

Well.. it makes sense for you to call and check since you believe it’s ok to eat non-zabiha meat. If its beef based stuff then 'tis all good.

For those of us who have more limited choice … all gelatin is off the menu so no sense in us trying to check.
