ties...

Question? May 5, 2000
Hazrat..What is shariyats law on wearing TYES (around the neck). Can we offer Namaaz with this. I will be highly obliged if you answer my querry . SHUKRIYA…ALLAH-HAAFIZ

Imam reply:
Brother according to my knowledge the necktie is the symbol of cross which, according to the corrupt dogma of Christains, was used to crucify the Holy Prophet Isa alaihis salam. But according to the holy Quran Sayyidna Isa alaihis salam has been uplifted to the sky. Therefore a muslim must keep himself away from such things.

I think that its not such a symbol any more and has been adopted globally as part of formal dressing. I think that, with that assumption, its fine to use necktie, even while offering Namaz. However, the traditional dresses (shalwar kurta/qameez, Arabic robe etc.) are certainly better to wear during Namaz, since that has been the sunnah of our buzurgs and saints. Thats what I think.

I don't think it is symbol of a cross Blushy :) The only point raised about a necktie is that it should not be made of silk since Muslim men are not supposed to wear silk.

^ agreed.

Ive heared that one of the reasons Dr Zakir Naik wears the tie is to dispel this misconception that its not allowed.

and Mufti Taqi Uthmani from Pakistan once wrote that there is no evidence to link the tie to the cross.

Intenationally, he is highly respected so I trust his judgement.
