how do you prevent kids from sucking their thumbs???
its sure is a frustrating experience trying to wean the thumb from the mouth..
my niece just doesn’t stop that..even when shes asleep…no matter how hard you try…
We tried the following
put mirchai on her thumb not salt
once put that..she howled so much that never tried it again
she'll howl for a while but she'll learn that if she doesnt want ne mirchai, she better not suck her thumb, its the best and most direct way, we did it to my cousins kid

I dunno if this is a good idea but you can tell your niece that if she doesnt stop doing that she will have to be taken to the dentist. Kids hate dentists. I dont have kids, so best to ask someone else. Ask your dentist. smile

kids ARE definitely scared of the dentist (i remember my little nephew's visit), so maybe u should TAKE her to the dentist and let her see the sharp metal instruments and let him scare her, if u scare her once she wont do it after that, its called tough love n u need to use it!!!
wat if the kid has never been to the dentist so hwo would the kid know if its scary or not :p
tell her about how scared u were when u first went to the dentist:mocking: or if U’ve never been to the dentist then we have other problems than her thumbsucking
if u make the kid afraid of the dentist they will stay afraid of the dentist forever and ever and then will have really bad teeth.
when u grow up u have to face ur fears....so i guess shell have to deal with it...i used to be scared but i got over it
My sister used to suck on her index finger when she was younger...tried everything...from gloving her hand to mirchi, where she cried and bawled the whole night, but as she grew older (about 3/4ish) she kinda gave up on it on her own cuz everyone told her not to do it.
My cousin's little girl, she's about 16 months old, she sucks on three fingers. We gloved her hand, she still hasn't given up on it. But whenever someone sees her hand in her mouth, we tell her to take it out and she listens! I think she'll give up on it pretty soon too.
my son is 2 we had the same problem with him, we tried everything to make him stop but he would not stop, then finaly we took to the dentist.
your dentist or orthodontist will place an oral appliance in your nieces mouth that prevents thumbsucking. This device can help stop thumbsucking within a few days. it worked for us i think you should give it a shot. btw i would never try chilli it makes the kids suffer.
