**The whole rice thing is crazy.....wasting/tossing grains wont bring you any prosperity in future....
makes no sense if you really think about is!

Re: Throwing Of Chavel
Throwing rice on the couple after the wedding ceremony has always been symbolic of wishing prosperity and good luck. In the Orient, throwing rice means, "May you always have a full pantry."
Re: Throwing Of Chavel
there's this one thing i've been told (and xperienced meself), that if a bride eats til she's full on the day of her wedding (before the baraat arrives) then her married life will be full of prosperity.
Errr okay.
Re: Throwing Of Chavel
Ok, I may have completely got this from some Indian film but.....
It's a Indian/Hindu rasam?
It 'symbolises' her returning the food etc that her father has provided her with all her life?
Like i say - might be totally filmi?????

Re: Throwing Of Chavel
Good God people!
In Pk, it's considered that the women of the family bring "rizq" to the family, so when they're about to leave, they throw the rice signifying that they are leaving behind that "rizq" with their family.
But seriously its no more tragic than having to sacrifice 2 goats (or something like that) onn your wedding day.
I saw Abrar-ul-Haq's wife's picture in a popular magazine with 2 bakras that were going to be sacrificed on the wedding day. Now that's weird!
lol i think i have have to throw tonnes of chaval and even then i wudnt b able to return all the food to my father cos i eat soooooooooooo much ![]()
Re: Throwing Of Chavel
well i guess this tradition will come to and end once they check out the price of the rice these days
Re: Throwing Of Chavel
one of my gori teachers was getting married a long time back and she was talking about how they had a tradition of throwing rice but since she didn't want the mess or to waste fooed, she was gonna give all her guests soap bubble bottles so they can all blow bubbles at the bride and groom. I dont know how it turned out but the thought sounded cool at the time :)
**rice is grown and taken care for a verry long time.. years…when rice is grown it is covered with a brown shield. that shield can be interpreted as a brides family / parents/ father.. anything.. ..when rice has to be “given” away.. the brown cover is first taken off… a sign of rebirth.. a sign of letting go.. basically, the protection is taken off. ] you know like,..father gives daughter away..
the white rice would b a sign of Rebirth.. of a new start..
but, its a hindu rasm… pakistanis/muslims shudnt b doing it** ![]()
Re: Throwing Of Chavel
same as she spills the rice in the susural's when she enters for the first time, its like lakshmi is in your home.
