Through Disasters, friendships are formed

When the devastating earthquate hit turkey a few years ago, Israel was one of the countries that quickly dispatched its resources to help in the rescue and recovery effort. From $$'s to manpower to equipment and science…Israel helped a rival in need and formed a relationship which over time has only strengthened. I see a similar opportunity between India and Pak. The bon homie built over the last few years has reached non-reversible traction and the sharing of resources, manpower and like will help both countries rebuild and grow. There is too much in common between the two people to fester in enmity…time to learn from such catastrophic events and use it as an impetus for greater cooperation going forward.

Re: Through Disasters, firendships are formed

nothing happening Pinny. both countries have thanked each other for the offers but no joint operations are happeing.. neither is aid crossing borders.

Re: Through Disasters, firendships are formed

Well that is terrible. I hope they learn the lesson that you and I learned. Sure I am may be short, kala, hindu and you a handsome, tall muslim. We can still have a beer together and dsicuss whether going to heaven is better than to come back in your next incarnation as Elizabeth Hurley's boyfriend.

Re: Through Disasters, firendships are formed

An Israeli official is visiting Turkey tomorrow to talk about starting up joint operations.

Re: Through Disasters, firendships are formed

Nothing wrong with friendship. One should be humble and guard against arrogance. I think it was Mao Tse Tung who said that one should always recognise one’s limits and not be misled by overconfidence. So Pinny Danda, I’d love to have that beer and to accept Indian help… even joint ops. However, I’d request India to desist from stoking up fires elsewhere in Pakistan, e.g. Balochistan. That’d be more of a help.

Re: Through Disasters, friendships are formed

PD,
I second your proposal.

PM Manmohan jee has made generous offers and deserves our (Pak) appreciation.
Thanks

Re: Through Disasters, firendships are formed

Joint operations with whom? Turkey & Israel have done many joint operations together.

Re: Through Disasters, friendships are formed

there are many differences..but one reason I don't care much for it is that it looks like a political stunt..the situation in Indian occupied Kashmir is quite bad as well..and you already hear people on both sides turning the diaster aid into one upmanship..a bit of sensitivity and some practical gestures (troop pull backs in siachen and on the international border) would probably do a lot more

Re: Through Disasters, friendships are formed

A good thought to ponder upon, and I wish it would have worked, but sadly due to tactical reasons the Pakistani authorities declined some offers of help from the Indians, most notably the offer for Indian choppers to enter the region.

Even though it didnt turn out like PD here suggested, but overall the help India offerred will strengthen the relationship between the two countries. We should all be thankful to India (and all other countries) for providing help in the time of need.

Re: Through Disasters, friendships are formed

media war over LOC crossing has already begun.

lol @ bonhomie

Re: Through Disasters, friendships are formed

our wars and rivalries have gone on too long, if this tragedy is not going to open up the eyes of the people on both sides and serve for lasting peace then I dont know what will

Re: Through Disasters, friendships are formed

Why should this tragedy change anything when the one last year or the one year before did not?

Re: Through Disasters, friendships are formed

Aisha because there are certain watershed events in history...good and bad..that change the outlook of humanity. Some have caused world wars, while others have brought people together.

Re: Through Disasters, friendships are formed

PD,

Sorry to disagree. India and Pakistan will never be friends. We are destined to be each other's arch-enemies for the rest of time. One day China and India will be friends. They are already each other's best customers in Asia. No such luck between India and Pakistan. And Pak guppies, don't think Indian muslims are going to side with you. Most Indian muslims see India's Hindu-Muslim problem as our own and thank you but stay out of it. Neither will Kashmir issue be ever resolved. Our both countries will continue to spend untold billions to defend against each other. It is just that India can afford to do it easier than Pakistan.
