Three Reasons To Choose Shalwar Kameez Over Other Outfits

The beauty of a woman is dependent upon her projection of womanhood in a beautiful manner and style. The traditional Indian dress, shalwar kameez serves the purpose right. Mughal Kings and Queens brought in the new concepts of dressing with their advent in the sub continent of India, centuries ago. The modern designers and fashion gurus have not only kept those concepts alive but also introduced them to international fashion scene. They were applauded and customers from all over the world feel proud to be wearing Pakistani designer made shalwar kameez.

  1. Fabric: shalwar kameez is stitched from various fabrics, which are easily available at the local market. For fancy wears jamawar, silk, organza and net are quite popular. For casual wear in winter, marina, velvet, satin silk and heavy cotton is used. For the summers, we have a variety of lawns, georgettes, silk and cottons. Pakistani cotton is famous for its quality and fine finishing.

  2. Patterns: shalwar kameez are stitched and cut in traditional, contemporary and western influenced. Some of the designer work for selected clients as haut e couture and many of them work only in bridal wears. Usually you can find any type of shalwar kameez at reasonable prices online as well as collection boutiques.

  3. Trend: a trendy and glamorized person can always choose from a variety of styles, color, and fabric to follow the latest trends. Some of the trends that the girls follow are Punjabi, patyiala, rajasthani, frock style and churidar salwar kameez.

i agree, although i dont wear salwar kameez myself often, i think its a really feminine and pretty dresswear to wear for a woman. it can be either elegant or casual and can enhance a womans beauty i think
by the way though, salwar kameez is not traditional indian dress, its traditionally afghan and pakistani. it dates back to the 12th century during the islamic era and then the mughals came after :). here is a pic from wikipedia(it dates back to 1870) that i thought was really interesting

hey Cawalk, i was pretty much saying the same thing as you, just in a different way! apparently it was introduced by turks and people from iran when they came to india,i think before the mughal era but not 100% sure on that.
and i just meant to point out that salwar kameez is traditional in pakistan and afghanistan, but not in india where i think the sari is more the traditional dress.
the lady in the picture is actually a teenage girl, and the hair on her forehead, i know it looks weird but it was a fashion when the pic was taken. i think she looks a bit surly in the picture cos maybe she'd never had her picture taken before.

Re: Three Reasons To Choose Shalwar Kameez Over Other Outfits

Salwar is actually a Persian word for pants, and kameez is derived from the Arabic word qamis, which was in turn, derived from camisia - the Latin word for shirt.
racing the history of shalwar kameez in detail is no small feat. The problem is not with the lack of sources though. It is quite the opposite; there are too many descriptions in historical passages, and more that are lyrical instead of literal. In the past, when people, especially poets, talk of outfits, they usually have the outfits of the royalty in mind. As a result, it is often the case that the beauty and magnificence, and not the bland descriptions of textiles and patterns were recorded.
The earliest time to which the introduction of salwar kameez to the Indian society can be traced is the 12th century. It is said that during this period, Punjabs or Turko-Iranian horse-riding nomads from Central Asia may have brought the ensemble to the country. Those tribes have, at that time, already converted to Muslim, and as more conservative clothes are a must, the salwar kameez became their choice in clothing. It has to be stressed that while salwar kameez is associated with Muslim; it is also often worn by people of other religions.

Nowadays, salwar kameez is popular not only in India but in Pakistan and other South Asian countries as well. A fact that isn't surprising at all, considering that salwar kameez is one versatile, comfortable and stylish outfit.
