Three of the ‘missing persons’ found dead in Haripur

**ISLAMABAD: Three men allegedly arrested by security forces when they disappeared a year ago were found dead Thursday after authorities ordered that they be produced alive in court, police said.

The case spotlights the plight of the “missing” in Pakistan, where judges are seeking to bring the powerful military and intelligence agencies to book over mass arrests of alleged terror suspects, who are never seen again.

According to a preliminary autopsy report, the three men aged 30 to 35 were recently killed — first poisoned, then their necks were broken.

Their bodies were discovered in the district of Haripur.

“The dead bodies were recovered from three different places,” Mohammad Ali Gandapur, district police chief, told AFP.

He said police were investigating who killed them and why.

Relatives of one of the victims told police he was arrested by security forces and had been missing for 11 months, Gandapur said.

Footage broadcast by private TV channel showed the bodies being taken away by ambulance, accompanied by relatives and rescue workers.

A senior police official, speaking only on condition of anonymity, said the victims had been arrested by intelligence agencies.

An unnamed relative told the TV channel that the victims were three of 170 missing people ordered to be produced court by judges in the northwestern capital Peshawar.

Earlier this month, the high court in Peshawar ordered spy agencies, police and the provincial government to provide details on the status of 170 people.

Mohammad Iqbal Mohmand, provincial deputy attorney general, told AFP that the court is hearing cases from 170 petitioners who want their relatives back and accuse the intelligence agencies of holding them illegally.

The Supreme Court will next hear the case on July 11.

The apex court was also investigating the cases of missing people in the northwest and southwestern Balochistan province, where the military has been accused of rights violations in its bid to put down a separatist insurgency.

In February, seven men allegedly held by intelligence services appeared before the SC, more than a year and a half after being allegedly arrested in connection with terror attacks.

It was an unprecedented development that challenged perceptions that Pakistan’s feared Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) operates above the law.**

Re: Three of the ‘missing persons’ found dead in Haripur

This is truly disgusting act, ISI needs to be reigned by some ruling (militay/civilian or mixed) so that civilians who are picked up don't get murdered like this.

Re: Three of the ‘missing persons’ found dead in Haripur

I am sure that these people would have been involved in subversive activities, but I do think they should be punished through a judicial process.

Re: Three of the ‘missing persons’ found dead in Haripur

What they did in their life is not punishable now but their killers should be traced and punished .

Bade Bhai hain ab keys keh or kar skate hain.

Re: Three of the ‘missing persons’ found dead in Haripur

ISI is itself pretty much police, judiciary and executioner at the same time.

Re: Three of the ‘missing persons’ found dead in Haripur

The silence by N$ and IK on this very key issue is dafening. How these guys would deal this human right violations neither army nor courts including IC are going to give any relief on this issue. I think Pakistan is the only country where ISI or military intelligence is police, judiciary and executioner at the same time.

Re: Three of the ‘missing persons’ found dead in Haripur

Why are you picking out just NS and IK ? ... They are all keeping silent ... Apart from some media outlets ... They are all turning a blind eye.

Re: Three of the ‘missing persons’ found dead in Haripur

^ it's not ppp's job to apprehend the killers or have this nonsense stopped (it has increased many times during the current regimes tenure) , it's the responsibility of everyone else. Corruption, yes that's their job and biased supreme court is not even allowing that. :(

Re: Three of the ‘missing persons’ found dead in Haripur

It is because of the SC that some missing persons have been recovered especially in the southwestern province. Bas kuch ko jalan hai apnay peer-o-murshid kay khilaf karwai kee... :D

Re: Three of the ‘missing persons’ found dead in Haripur

Pardon me for saying. How are you so sure that they were involved in subversive activities. They might have been picked up by the security agencies to settle personal scores. This problem is manifested anywhere where the security forces have unlimited control and power.

Re: Three of the ‘missing persons’ found dead in Haripur

Innalilahe Wainna Alihay Rajiyon.

I wish that those who did this taste the same, it is disgusting to see that they can pick any one and just kill them with out proving any thing. If they have some thing against the person bring them in court-be it military or civil- if this is not done then believe me these agencies know that they are killing innocent people just to please their blood thirsty masters.

Let pray that this thing end up soon. SC cant do any thing, they are just working on their script to stage a juicy play for pakistani awam while our forces are free to kill bloody civilians.

Re: Three of the ‘missing persons’ found dead in Haripur

Behave like CJ of SC not representative of Punjab, persecuting few selective people. Bring DG ISI and CAOS in the court and ask for their explanations on these merciless killings.

Re: Three of the ‘missing persons’ found dead in Haripur

Re: Three of the ‘missing persons’ found dead in Haripur

Why would Pakistan army want to kill its own people?
In case you don't know, Pakistan army is actually not listening to US calls to take action against Haqqani's terrorists inside Pakistan.
