The Asian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) is gravely concerned by the brutal attack and threats of rape against female opposition council members of the Karachi city government by the council members of the Muttehda Qoumi Movement (MQM), a member of the ruling alliance in President General Musharraf’s government and the ruling party of the City District Government Karachi (CDGK), on 26 April 2007. We were informed that the opposition female council members were severely beaten and threatened with rape during the attack, which resulted in injuries to four female and six male opposition council members. We are concerned that the Sindh police refused to register case against the ruling party council members and instead registered cases of hooliganism against the opposition council members. The AHRC believes that President General Musharraf’s Pakistan government attempts to use hooliganism by its allied parties to divert the attention of people from the judicial crisis which was started after the chief justice of the supreme court was pressured to resign on 9 March 2007.

Kharzai is not popular in any part of faghanistan, does not mean that Taleban were, but I was just drawing a parellel for ppl unfamiliar with karachi to understand. most ppl fear MQM, many see them as the least evil of all evils, but they have fewer die hard supporters than ppl believe that they have.

ایف آئی آر کے مطابق جلوس میں شریک وکلاء نے مشرف کے پتلے پر جوتیوں کے ہار ٹانگے ہوئے تھے اور اس پر لکھا تھا کہ ’وکلاء مجھے معاف کرو میں وردی نہیں پہنوں گا‘ جبکہ بعض شرکاء نے حکمران جماعت متحدہ قومی موومینٹ کے قائد الطاف حسین کی تصویر بھی اٹھا رکھی تھی جس پر تحریر تھا کہ ’پاکستان آجاؤ یہ تمہاری جاگیر ہے‘

MQM MNA, 12 workers attacked

HYDERABAD, June 2: An MNA of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Mohammad Parvez Qureshi, and 12 party activists suffered injuries in an attack allegedly made by activists of Pakistan People’s Party in Hatri late on Friday night.
Police registered an FIR on Mr Qureshi’s complaint against 50 people under sections 324, 147, 148 and 337 PPC.
Reports said that more than 50 PPP activists armed with sticks and hatchets attacked Mr Qureshi and his colleagues in Hatri when he was inaugurating the installation of an electric transformer.
The injured were moved to the Civil Hospital.
