My wife had unusual bleeding/spotting events twice in four days immediately after intercourses. We saw a doctor yestarday and she said it might be threatened abortion. She gave her folic acid and one another medicine for two weeks and then asked us to come again. She said the meds will help tp keep baby healthy if still there.
We both are worried. Internet search on this isnt really very encouraging. I need to be mentally strong myself to keep her OK but after this morning’s internet search its bit difficult.
I wanted to know if some one had experience of this. What is the likelyhood that this current “threatened abortion” will later become “normal pregnancy” and delievery ?

I have had several miscarriages and I know how you must be feeling with the loss of blood. Please be assured though that a lot of women bleed during pregnancy....as I was told time and time again. I know it's no comfort to you when you are in this situation though..................
If they (the doctors) have said that it's a "threatened abortion", and have asked you to return in 2 weeks, my understanding is that there are lower chances of this actually happening, as if they thought it was imminent then they would monitor her (may be even admit her) as they need to ensure she is OK.
Please pray as much as you can, make dua, give sadaqah. Your wife should rest completely - the advice I was always given was to rest totally and only get up for visits to the toilet! Also, avoid intercourse....this was the first thing they told me.

BTW - you don't mention how many weeks your wife is? Less than 24 weeks I assume?

If this is the case then there isnt anything to worry about. Does the spotting occur only after intercourse?
A little bit of spotting is common during early stages of pregnancy....how far along is she? It could also be implantation bleeding. Implantation bleeding occurs when the fertilized egg buries itself in the uterus.
Did the doctor do an exam yet? without doing an exam they can't/shouldnt really say that it's "threatened abortion"....I dont know why they would scare you like that. If they havent done an exam yet you should tell them that you'd like to have one done just to make sure mommy and baby are ok.....and for your peace of mind.

Good advice - i hope inshallah everything is ok. As everyone else has said to get a checkup done. I pray that your wife and lil bubba are ok inshallah and yourself.

I was bleeding somewhat heavily though, & doctor put me on bedrest, but also advised to keep my legs elevated and only get up to use bathroom. I would go back to the Ob-Gyn & demand a thorough checkup & even a sonogram to confirm the fetus is fine and for your peace of mind. The fact that they want you to come back in 2 weeks, Inshallah I am sure she should be fine. When I was bleeding, she sent me for an ultrasound the same day & tests. Inshallah everything will be fine. Just pray.
By the way is she feeling any symptoms with the spotting? Any pain or anything?

Don't worry Maam, It is sometimes very normal to bleed a little, If you ae too much worried with that, I would suggest to get an ultrasound done for your satisfaction. An intercourse can never cause bleeding but I would always refrain from sex during pregnancy. Doctors advice otherwise though.
like everyone said bit of bleeding or spotting is normal...i believed on that too and had miscarriage during 1st trimester.... since i was not having any discomfort or pain, i just ignored my spotting... probably i shouldnt have. anyways...how far she is along? did they check the heartbeat of the baby ?

The only bleeding incident was on last thursday and Alhamdolilah not since then. There have been two spotting incidents which was on sunday n yestarday but almost negligeble. She is although have light to moderate pain in lower abdomen almost constantly with bit of nausia and gabrahat.
The problem with us is the information flow has been some what contradictory. For example when she went to see the doctor last friday after first and only bleeding incident the doctor did not even suggest a test for pregnancy and asked her to come again if it bleeds "as it might be related to pregnancy" The docotr however inserted something in vagina which was very painful and then said to my wife everything is normal and she can enjoy life as normal including intercourse. And then when we went four to five days later as my wife was feeling nausia n vomitting with pain in lower abdomen and home pregnancy test positive; the doctor said it is threatened pregnancy, gave her folic acid n another medicine asking to come again in two weeks. Mind you there was no physical examination at all on second visit when threatened pregnancy was dignosed.
Clearly, you need to consult someone who is a better doctor. Please don't wait because it is a serious matter. You should take your wife as soon as possible.

Ok i am trying to get a better understanding here....
ask your wife how many days late (with her period) she is. Did the doctors take a blood test confirming that she is pregnant?..if the doctor hasnt done any tests and has asked you to come back in 2 weeks...seems to me she is really early....what doctors would call a "chemical pregnancy".
did she take the pregnancy test immediately after she was a day or two late? if yes....then it is too soon for her to get any tests done with the doctor and most doctors tell their patients to come in when they are a few weeks late with their period. I'll tell you why once I get the details.
If she is only 3 weeks along, its too early for the docs to do anything else. They could do some bloodwork - checking pregnancy hormone levels for 2 days in a row. Levels should double every 24 hours in a healthy pregnancy. If they arent doubling that means its not a viable pregnancy, the egg was not a good one or didnt divide properly and although it implanted and caused pregnancy symptoms, could never result in a viable pregnancy. But the only thing to do in this case is wait. They could also check her progesterone level - if its too low then even a healthy pregnancy could result in loss. But thats very uncommon in younger women - it happens to those over 30 with fertility troubles usually. So theres not much else to do but wait and see. I wish you all the best.
