Threat to democracy...

No no no, I am not taking about Gen Raheel’s picture behind a truck, twitter hashtag or a Facebook meme.

I am talking about real threat to democracy which is extremely low voters turn out - average of 15-20%. That means only 20% decide the fate of 80% of the population.

I doubt it’s even considered an issue.

Re: Threat to democracy...

This is called representative sample in Statistics. So they actually represent the wish of 80% with 99% of confidence level. :)

Re: Threat to democracy...

who wish not to come out to vote were okay with either candidate.

Re: Threat to democracy...

Don't know about this local body elections, but the voter's turnout in all the elections except one since 1988 was above 40%. 2013 voter's turnout was around 55%.

Re: Threat to democracy...

I was hoping that turnout will be higher in LB elections coz in LB, mostly, candidates are local and people can relate to the candidates unlike the NA/PA candidates but seems like I was wrong.

Pakistan also has to experiment with "early voting" as implemented in many countries such as Canada, Australia, Thailand etc. This will give more options to people to vote avoiding long lines on THE day
