Threads closed at whim?

What is going on in the religion forum. I held my tongue earlier when one or two of my threads was shut down, for reasons that were completely unfathomable and uncomprehensible to me. I decided to not bother, because these things can happen when a discussion gets too…interesting for some people.

But a recent thread on the Swat flogging video was posted in Religion and it was swiftly shut down. The moderator offered this statement as its last in the thread.

Can someone please explain a rational reason to shut down a thread that is clearly about Islam, as the Taliban flogging is not just a political issue, but its very clearly a religious topic as well that MUST be discussed. I’m sick of these topics being shut down - these are the things muslims need to stop ignoring!

Astaghfirullah … I don’t want to see or want anybody to see this sort of thing … reading about it is bad enough … - Psyah.

Re: Threads closed at whim?

Psyah was just talking about the thread in general, the video was barbaric and disturbing in nature. And btw, anything and everything that happens in the name of religion is really not a religious issue. The video is posted in a blog also and been discussed in many forums all over GS.

And if you still insist that it was a religious thread, please go and read all the replies in that thread and tell me which one qualifies as a pure religious discussion. The thread is more suited for Pak affairs, in factPA has a thread going on there already

There is no need to have duplicate threads going on everywhere.

Re: Threads closed at whim?

The topic is being discussed in a religious light, which is a perfectly valid discussion - questions were raised that if she was truly guilty of a sin with a man, then does it make this punishment in line with Islam.

WHY can we not discuss when a "muslim" does something questionable and might make a reasonable muslim sweat in their panties in a forum like the religion forum. The forum is not just for the theological topics, it is also for practical topics that discuss how we muslims ACTUALLY practice Islam.

A brave soul opened up a new thread on this issue, and I hope that it stays open. But seriously - closing down threads - that should be done for things like where the discussion is completely getting out of hand, or where there are serious GS violations, like someone posted up a nude poster of Playboy's model of the month.

Re: Threads closed at whim?

Topic can be discussed without posting a video, right? When people keep throwing video at each others face then topic is going to revolve around the how barbaric Talibans are and then you will hear derogatory comments about real Islamic scholars and phrases like Monkey Islam comes in the discussion.

My goal and your goal is the same PCG. To separate Talibanism from real Islam. Maybe the approach might be different, but the goal is the same.

Re: Threads closed at whim?

I beg to differ. The video is essential to the discussion as it drives home the barbarity of those who are using the name of islam to impose upon the people a system which they don't want to live by. There is a lot of sympathy towards these so called mujahedeen and their wars against anybody and everybody. The government of Pakistan has essentially legitimized their version of sharia. The video shakes up the sympathetic and makes the apathetic aware of what is coming if nothing is done about it.

Re: Threads closed at whim?

But the thread in question was open and people were discussing, right? Then I stopped following the thread and now I see it closed again but I agree with TLK, the video has been posted at umpteen places right on GS, everythread talking about same subject doesn't need the video.
