Is it possible to have users to be able to “moderate” certain threads (temporarily given limited rights to the thread upon request). For example in the religion forum there is a thread by USResident on christianity involving the old man. Other people are replying on the thread, which is derailing the thread. But instead of cutting out other people’s responses altogether, could the thread originator be given rights in some circumstances (like this) to direct the course of the discussion incorporating input from other participants that is relevant? The forum moderators cant really do it (firstly because of time, but also because theyre not directly involved and invested in the thread)
Re: Thread Moderatorship
They can PM mods and ask them to remove certain posts if they want to.
Re: Thread Moderatorship
yea but I know how hard it is for mods to respond immediately to such things.
Re: Thread Moderatorship
You have a great suggestion but I think it will create "double standards" like;
Will all guppies have the same right?
Will all forums have the same rule?
Does that mean Moderators are not doing their job and we need to actually ask members to get the job done?
Think of the power we have man, why give it away? I love editing and stuff.
Ok, I might have exaggerated a little bit but you can atleast agree to one of the points.
Re: Thread Moderatorship
i don't think this is a good idea, because someone can not only remove off-topic posts, but also posts that go against his/her own personal opinion, even though those posts can contain valid and good points. This way the discussions can become very subjective and one-sided
Re: Thread Moderatorship
Actually that's exactly what the moderator role is all about.. thread participation and keeping it on track is SUPPOSED TO BE the No. 1 responsibility of the moderator..
but it gets tough unless you are the kind of person who gets involved in each and every discussion in your forum.
qissa mukhtasir, it depends on the moderator.. if a mod is the right fit for a forum, he/she would be so actively involved in that forum that u would never notice this phenomenon of threads getting awry etc. lihaaza agar voh bhool jayaiN to PM kar kay yaad farma daiN..
Re: Thread Moderatorship
way to shoot down a great idea guys.
:-/
Re: Thread Moderatorship
nescio has a point.
not a good idea
Re: Thread Moderatorship
if two ppl wish to talk with no one else interrupting, they r better off using the PMs....
otherwise, this is a general discussion forum, and limiting threads to limited users is not very practical....
