Obviously, shooting at the mob or even using machine gun on mob killing some of them was right action by police. It is duty of police to protect a person (an individual) from mob, regardless of any situation.
I bet if the person needing protection was son of police station SHO, then SHO would have gone to any length to protect his son from mob, including shooting at mob.
I bet Mr Captain, if it was you yourself or someone close to you needing protection from mob, you would have also agreed that police should have protected you at any cost, even cost of shooting at Mob and killing criminals taking law in their own hand.
