There is a huge difference between “I love you” and “**I think **I love you”. I don’t know why your friends feels guilty or anxious considering the her boyfriend doesn’t seem to be 100% sure that he loves her…and is putting her in a awkard situation. Tell her to let it go…and if HE brings it up again…then she should just be honest about her feelings.
On a side note…how is the BF behaving since this incident?
Have I ever been in this situation where a guy told me that he “thinks” he loves me? No. If a guy I considered my boyfriend told me that…my response would probably be “Oh…so you’re not sure?”.
