those three words...

I was just talking a friend on the phone and she was describing to me how her boyfriend recently said to her ’ i think i love you’, how she knew what was coming and as he said it she was trying to quickly think of what she was going to say back as she doesnt feel the same way.

She ended up saying ‘oh really?!..long pause…i love you too’.

she explained how she really cares for him and may love him but is not in love with him.

Although the boyfriend was over the moon she now feels extremely guilty and anxious everytime they meet/talk which is pretty much everyday.

I advised her to be honest with him and just say shes not quite there yet. but what an awkward situation.

Have you ever been in this situation? what would you do in this situation?

Re: those three words...

LOL, reminds me of the FRIENDS episode where Ross advises giving the response, "And I like spending time with you" when he hears those three words and doesn't feel the same way. Only he ended up on the receiving end of it, which was funnier.

Re: those three words...

Tell her to explain that to the guy ASAP........

Re: those three words...

There is a huge difference between "I love you" and "**I think **I love you". I don't know why your friends feels guilty or anxious considering the her boyfriend doesn't seem to be 100% sure that he loves her....and is putting her in a awkard situation. Tell her to let it go....and if HE brings it up again....then she should just be honest about her feelings.

On a side note....how is the BF behaving since this incident?

Have I ever been in this situation where a guy told me that he "thinks" he loves me? No. If a guy I considered my boyfriend told me that.....my response would probably be "Oh....so you're not sure?".

Re: those three words...

hahaha. What a legend this show is!:)

inspi: If she is not feeling as strongly as the guy is feeling for her, tell her to back off a little.. plus the guy doesnt seem to sure either. I think I love you does not ring of much confidence now, does it?

Re: those three words...

Even when you didn't love the person?

OT: Why did she have to say it back! I know it's an awkward situation. O well, she can start by asking him to clarify what he meant by "I think", and then she can talk about how she likes him (if shes does) but may not "love" him yet.

Re: those three words...

^ Yes. I'd ask him that regardless of how I felt. My feelings aside, I'd want to know WHY he'd even bother to bring it up if he wasn't 100% sure.

Re: those three words...

hmm, honest to him, but at the same time give him some time and also choice.

Re: those three words...

She should have said "I love cake"

Re: those three words...

is it bad that my first thought when reading the title of this thread was:

I hate you.

my second thought was:

Talak Talak Talak.

gosh. Why didn't she say "I think I love you too"

Re: those three words...

^ that.
