Previously we issued a leaflet regarding the arrests of the Shabab of Hizb ut-Tahrir started by the Syrian secret service on the 12th of December 1999. At that time we mentioned that the number arrested in the city of Hums alone was more than 60 and that the total figure was not precisely known. Recently, it has come to our knowledge that the number of arrests during the three weeks in various cities and villages of Syria is over 500. And the pursuit after them still continues…
They severely torture those under arrest so that they may lead them to those who are known to be from the Members of the Hizb. They also torture the hostages. Yes, even the hostages! When they raid a house and do not find the wanted person, they take his relatives as hostages and torture them until the wanted person gives himself in.
The Syrian authorities have not mentioned a single logical reason with which they can justify these terrorist practices. Rather, sometimes they say those people are forging money and sometimes they claim that they are dealing in weapons and at other times they are involved with Ref’at Asad. All of this is a fabrication and lie. Since, everybody knows that Hizb ut-Tahrir does not undertake any material actions, acts of violence or any prohibited actions.
Until this moment the Syrian regime has not announced that it has undertaken (and still continues to undertake) these arrests. It is blacking out these acts of repression which are killing the humanity of human beings. And the rest of the world media (all except a few) are favourably disposed to and in collusion with Syria regarding this suppression (of news). We distributed our previous leaflet to the world news media but they ignored it and suppressed it. Perhaps it is because they wish to hide the inhumane actions of Syria as long as Syria yields and proceeds in its relinquishment of Palestine and decides to recognise the usurping state of the Jews. How is it that the world news media failed to mention this matter in its reports?! Do not the media have eyes and ears? Do they not have reporters and correspondents. How can the raids, pursuance and arrests continue for about a month and result in more than 500 arrests throughout Syria and the media does not utter a single word about all of this?!
We know what has caused the Syrian authorities to undertake this ugly campaign. It is because of its determination to gag the mouths and silence the tongues which they expect to expose the vile crime that the Syrian regime has started to commit; the crime of recognising the usurping state of the Jews and conceding Palestine. This is the crime for which the Syrian regime has often accused other regimes of treachery for having previously committed it.
The current negotiations between the Syrian regime and the enemy, the Jewish usurper, under the auspices of America will not return the Golan to Syria. On the contrary, it will give the Golan heights to America. Syria has demanded that Israel leaves the Golan but Syria has committed itself to not returning a single Syrian soldier to the Golan. But the ones who will reside on the Golan are the American forces under the pretext of separation between Syria and Israel. The result is that the Syrian negotiation will not liberate the territory but consolidate the control of the disbelieving colonialists over the Islamic lands and extend their hold over it.
America’s presence in the Golan will enable her to have direct control over Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and Palestine. And it will give her influence in Iraq, Turkey and Cyprus. That is why America has been serious about this since Nixon and through all American presidents until Clinton. She is serious in expelling Israel from the Golan not in order to return it to Syria, but rather to settle therein permanently.
Three weeks ago America supplied Syria with equipment to monitor telephones, equipment which can locate the place of the speaker and identify the person from a recording of the vibrations of his voice. She did that to help the Syrian regime in suppressing and arresting anyone who opposes the policy of this regime.
That is the reason why the Syrian authorities have carried out the undertaken arrests. So that not a single a voice that speaks out of the enormity of this crime will remain. This crime is bigger than the crime of Sadat, Hussein and Arafat, because it will bring the American presence to the Golan so that from it America will dominate the entire region. It will remove all the barriers from the face of the Jewish state to spread throughout the Islamic world, especially the Arab world, and control its economy and security.
O Allah! We ask for the good and so that You may ease the situation of this Ummah.
