Probably its the same thought of Bulleh Shah that:
Beshak Masjid Mandir todo
Pyar bhara dil na todo
iss dil main yaar rehta
Means the heart of man is the place where God lives.. who is presumed to live in the sky.
There was this poem of Abu Ben Adham in our syllabus:
I sought to hear the voice of God and
climbed the topmost steeple,
but God declared:
"Go down again - I dwell among the people."
