Daily Jang’s representative from Abu Dhabi in his column “Overseas Pakistanis may also be treated as Pakistanis” refers to recent increase from Rs. 400 to Rs. 700 airport Tax. He says if someone is traveling with family it comes to thousands. He adds why each government targets the Overseas Pakistanis. He reminds earlier in shape of new ID Card a tax was levied. He says the higher authorities know well whatever new levy may be imposed or their neck may be turned Overseas Pakistani can do nothing even they do not have the right of strike.
There had long a belief that since Pakistan came into being the rulers had been illiterate or semi literate Wadaras, Choudhries, Nawabs, Sardars hence they did not know the real pains of common man hence while increasing cost of kerosene oil they always said it would not affect the common man. It was believed when educated and from middle poor class leadership will come it would really think of for common man. Our this belief failed late early 1990s when real educated and poor class MQM people came into power. These people came in the name of welfare of depressed common man. I made a very genuine complaint against a Government department. My old aged father was summon to his late night hours by a MQM middle class active leader “advising” him why his son had made a complaint instead of taking note of corrupt officer in the department. Our belief that educated people will bring relief to common man too failed when we so the performance of our “graduate assembly”.
Likewise there was also another belief that since in the Ministry of Labour & Overseas Pakistanis and Overseas Pakistanis there was no Overseas Pakistanis sitting hence these authorities do not know real problems of OPs hence no policies or work for real welfare. It was believed when Ops would come in the Ministry or OPF then they would do the real work. The present Overseas Pakistanis Minister is a long stand Overseas Pakistani himself and is not holding merely a post of a Minister but also Chairman of OPF Board. He had remained more than 30 years an OP. He talks so much about Ops welfare. But in this presence this new tax has been levied and his OPF of which he is Chairman has not made officially any remotest protest or struggled against this tax.
