Please see the verses 157, 158 of Surah Aaraf (7). All you guys disbelieving in Hazrat Muhammad (saw) being an Ummi can clearly see Quran saying the contrary.

Actually there is 2 belief on this topic. Some says Prophet was literate and other side some says he was illiterate. We should not fight over this tiny detail..because what is important is that his saying and Sunnah is preserved.
One of Allah's hikmat behind this is that if Hazrat Muhammad Mustafa (saw) would not have been an Ummi, the non-believers could say that (Naoozubillah) he (saw) himself has written the Quran. Since, at that time, everyone in Arab knew about this fact, no one could claim this. I hope you guys understand now.
The Ayah's, which I referred to above, should clear everyone's mind.

lots of you muslims don’t know what happened in the cave of hira and this argument proves it half of you’s don’t know that prophet (s.a.w) could read and he never said I CANN’T READ he only read when angel gabriel said READ IN THE NAME OF THY LORD, WHO CREATED MAN FROM A CLOT OF BLOOD ETC… THEN PROPHET READ in the name of allah, see the amount of respect prophet mohammed showed .
