Thinking to move to Sydney Australia

Hi , every one . I am having an offer to work in suburbs of Sydney. ( 120 km away )
What do u ppl think. Right now I am in Saudi arabia and will move with my family. I am an electrical Engineer by profession.

What do u ppl think ? Ideas suggestions …

Re: Thinking to move to Sydney Australia

Well you need to be more specific.

Compare your pay, living condition, challenges you may face, etc. in both locations.

Re: Thinking to move to Sydney Australia

Pay wise I feel it is almost same. Absolute value is quite high in Oz but offcourse there is no tax in saudi while I think I will be paying 28 % tax in oz. Living condition will be tough maybe as here we have a good social circle while I think in the suburb of sydney , it will be difficult to find many pk families.
Advantage is the citizon ship , education and medical facilities .
Worried about the rumors of racism there.

i live in sydney. i will pm u. i m on holidays atm bt will try to give as much info as i can.

Re: Thinking to move to Sydney Australia

I wouldn't think twice about moving to Sydney as it is one of the most livable cities in the world. The temperature is mild all year, according to one Sydneyite I talked to it is simply wonderful there.
Living in suburbs means your accommodation will cost less. Schooling of your kids could be a problem.

Re: Thinking to move to Sydney Australia

That would swing it for a lot of people.. I have cousins in Sydney and altho I've never been (but my parents have) have been told there is a decent Pak/desi community out there..

I have lived in sydney for most of my life. Its a great place to live. Main areas where pakistani and muslim live are: auburn, lakemba, rooty hill, punchbowl, bankstown.

Its a mixed cultural city. Rent is very high. You can check rent for ur suburb on this website. www.realestate.com.au

As for racism, it as all depends. Hubby recently changed job, his boss, gora, takes cab and goes to halal resturant to get lunch for him and other muslim employees, when other emplyees dine in non halal resturants.

moving to sydney wouldnt be a wrong choice.

Re: Thinking to move to Sydney Australia

I have heard Sydney is full of Lebanese and Indonesian who do nothing but commit crimes, and live off of welfare.

Re: Thinking to move to Sydney Australia

^lets not go crazy with generalizations

Re: Thinking to move to Sydney Australia

If you are going there for job you should think about it carefully if its immigration then you should definitely go. The salary that you will be getting if its over AUD 100000/annum you will be giving almost 30 % back as taxes. Living expenses are very high, in fact at present Australia is one of the most expensive countries to live in. By the way which area would you be going to near Sydney, Wollongong?

Re: Thinking to move to Sydney Australia

I heard that tax is about 28 % till 125 k ( maybe I m wrong ) .

The place is Mittagong. I think it will be difficult to commute from sydney to Mittagong daily ( so have to stay at mittagong )

How is the cost of living there.

My employer will support for immigration. I am elect engineer . what is the expected time period for PR

Re: Thinking to move to Sydney Australia

I dont know about Mittagong, you can do some research about the town yourself. If its 125 Km away from Sydney, yes you are right you will have to live there.

The rental costs are between AUD 325-400/week, and then you have to add groceries, utility bills and travelling costs. All up you should consider that cost to be around another AUD 300/week. If you spend wisely you should be prepared for around AUD 625-700/week in living costs. If you are earning anything over 100 K you shouldn't have any problem in covering the costs. If your employer supports your immigration I think in a year or so you should have your immigration.
