The other day while checking out of a store I handed a 100 dollar bill/note to cashier . She used counterfeit detection pen on it. I commented out of my stupidity that hey it is genuine , I made it myself.
She was smart enough to get my joke and chuckled about it.
I thought on my way home , how stupid of me , I look like a typical middle eastern man of right age who can be stereotyped as a Muslim terrorist and I could be questioned by FBI for hours and I could be in deep trouble.
My son as his 7th grade science project chose the topic how to make a nuclear bomb and his teacher approved it too. But I realized there can be a big fuss about a Muslim boy working on making a nuclear bomb , I sent a note to his teacher to change the topic. She also commented to my son that “your father is a wise man, I could be into trouble too for allowing such a science project in these times”
What are your similar stories in which you said or did something without realizing the consequences of your words ? Do you always see the big picture ?
Here on campus I was working in Networks. One day my supervisor told me to go and check few wireless hot spots and how affective wireless signals are over there. So I put a router, a UPS and Laptop in a bag so I can easily drag it. UPS while unplugged makes a beeping noise. Now I have a black bag, making beeping noise and antena coming out of it. I use to take that bag and leave it some where in the building and move around in the building to check if I am getting enough wireless signals.
Now every one use to be so suspicious, while i left that beeping bag some where and move away from it. I told that to my supervisor later on that I need my badge as a Muslim guy, dragging a beeping bag and leaving it in the buildings makes people worried.
