Things you like and don't like about middle eastern culture

What are the things that you like about middle eastern culture?
What are the things that you don’t like about middle eastern culture?

In KSA I loved to go to khana kaaba, I love listening to azaan , I loved shawarma .
Things I didn’t like was humidity, ladies not driving, :frowning: and some other restrictions.

Re: Things you like and don't like about middle eastern culture

I do not like:
nosiness
Butting into other people affairs.
Butting into an ongoing talk between two people.
Doling out unsolicited medical , marital , social , religious and all kind of advice.

I like everything else.

Re: Things you like and don't like about middle eastern culture

I don't like anything at all about it.

Re: Things you like and don’t like about middle eastern culture

**Having lived in the Gulf for about 5 years or so.. I detest the arrogance of the people, hypocrisy , and complete lack of work ethics…
Good aspects- the “Adhaan”, the mosques, the halaal food:k:..

Re: Things you like and don’t like about middle eastern culture

halal food is the best part :k:

Re: Things you like and don't like about middle eastern culture

I don't like the "jahallat" and "they way women are treated"

I do like how everyone puts emphasis on prayer and prayer timings

Re: Things you like and don't like about middle eastern culture

I haven't been to the ME but similar sentiments as others..the arrogance of people behind the counter at the airports, the local authorities, I was reading an article in NYTIMES about people in Dubai who buy condos or houses for rent that the laws to get back your money are very murky and grey. Its very difficult navigating the court systems.

Re: Things you like and don't like about middle eastern culture

Good things: The food, street life, and the mosques all over middle east are beautiful.

Re: Things you like and don't like about middle eastern culture

I have lived there for 5yrs (work) and before that for school too....

I hate the fact that they think they are better than everyone else, coz they would be no where if it weren't for the ppl who actually work in their countries, who are mostly Pakistanis, Indians, Sri Lankans and Bangladeshis (but still they treat them like slaves).

I hate the way they treat women.

Actually I hate every single thing abt the place except for the Halal food and the mosques!!

Re: Things you like and don't like about middle eastern culture

i like:
the fact that people still trust.
food.nombnomnomnom

i dislike:
pervy retarded dudes who stare

Re: Things you like and don’t like about middle eastern culture

is ke baad reh kaya jaata hai :chai:

Arrogance is issue there:hmmm:

I miss good halaal food:(

Re: Things you like and don’t like about middle eastern culture

Can you elaborate “jahalat” I can understand the way women are treated but I didn’t understand jahalat part.:konfused:

Re: Things you like and don’t like about middle eastern culture

Yep wahaan to pays bhi aap ki nationality base per milti hain :vivo:

And these include especially Arabs

Re: Things you like and don't like about middle eastern culture

ok another good thing to add, when a couple gets married, or the dude marries again, the family gets their own house. the really rich families, tehy buy a huge plot and you'll see pretty big houses behind the same wall, but they are independent houses. otherwise the gov't will pay the couple money to build their own house wherever they want. no joint family system.

the bad stuff: no respect for women. it's hard to travel on your own without being oggled

.. **:hehe:.. just a tad!!!

Re: Things you like and don't like about middle eastern culture

It's strange when i went to saudi there was alot of oggling - but mainly by pakis!

I really think you can't group the WHOLE of the middle east all together, for instance egypt is alot different compared to saudi(in terms of women's rights etc), syria to UAE etc . it's funny because alot of things mentioned here can be applied to pakistan and really as a woman I felt more safe travelling in an arab country than pakistan.

Re: Things you like and don't like about middle eastern culture

I agree with the poster above that it's not fair to generalize cultures of different countries in the middle east as " middle eastern culture". There are different cultures in different countries across the middle east. Just as Pakistani culture is different from Indian culture, we would not like it if someone generalized our culture as "Indian culture".

Re: Things you like and don't like about middle eastern culture

Bad things: State-endorsed racism and sexism, the one-sided 'Islamic' rules that mean u can get away with a hell of a lot more if ur Arab and male. Also the arrogance, Saudis and Kuwaitis are by far the worst when it comes to this imo and talking of KSA those crazy mutawa..

Good things: Nice shopping malls, good food..

As has already been pointed out tho a lot of the bad stuff could also apply to our culture as well - esp the sexism/mistreatment of females..
