89% of the people writing the stuff here are guilty of it themselves.
How about realizing the bad traits and improving so your kids don't have to make a thread like this in few years? I don't know what you little Russel Peters get by putting yourselves down, insulting yourselves and your parents/culture?

No culture is perfect, we all have our flaws. Being able to criticize it does not mean that we are putting ourselves down. If we had no love for the culture we would not take the time to even speak about it or address some of the quirks or flaws people of that culture have.

Well, if you search 10 years back, you can probably find similar threads. I guess you guys like to discuss it, make fun of yourselves and go to sleep and then repeat the process while committing these things everyday yourself.
You are right, no culture is perfect, so shouldn't the debate end there? Its one thing to address flaws/mistakes and fix them but another when it becomes a roadshow where culture of your parents/elders is made fun of, insulted.

Same reason Russel Peter does it, because it's fun. Every culture has customs and traits that are not like the others, so if by "improving" you mean adopt to the western culture, then no thanks. What would life be without our ****-talking aunties and all the crazy things we do.

It is said that ‘big nations’ have big heart to laugh at them.
So others do not find fun in making fun of ‘big nations’.
But big nations also do real work to counter the weaknesses and not just laugh at themselves.
All too often we see comedy shows and comedians making fun of desis or desi countries but it all goes in to a big pile if fun. Nothing concrete to change the corruption, myths and bad habits.
(And yes, Russell Peter is for the money …so be it.)

When communicating with a co-worker or class fellow outside of school/work, they give us dirty looks and say "tu ghar chal, mai tenu dasni haan" Then literation (jutiyan paring) starts as soon as you enter home.

I really hate those desis who think they are not desis but part of some ghetto gang/rap group. It is pretty funny to see them wearing baggy pants that are literally falling below their waist, ghetto clothing, chains and other bling etc. These people go out of their way to act as if they are african americans from the hood. On several occasions, I have mistaken some of the darker desis dressed in this type of clothing to be african americans, until I realize, he is nothing more than a wannabe rapper desi.
