I was mostly a well behaved kid but I had my share of phainti. At times I was told that certain action was not good but found the urge difficult to control. Some of the things:
1- Don’t remember how old was but at that time I didn’t know the prayer but noticed the qiyam, rukoo, sujood order. I thought I can pretend that people are moving on my command. So when Imam finished qirat, I said loudly
Kodey ho jaoo (bend down)
then
Khloo jaoo ( stand up)
lammey pe jaoo ( lie down)
Then after prayer I remember everyone laughing and Iconoclast crying after getting spanked by dad.
2- Was older may be 5 , 6, I developed this uncontrollable urge to scratch or tickle peoples sole who were in line ahead. One day I went a step ahead and brought a needle with me and poked into the sole of person in line ahead, my luck that my uncle came late and saw my doing it. Feer Bari phainti laggi
Don’t have any funny stories…but my son goes to taraweeh with his dada and chachu and kneels/twists his head in front of people and stares in their faces offering them chocolate and ice cream.
Not about taraveh, but I had this habit (call it a zid) to stand at saf just behind mo’azzan in centre (second row) and I was ready to fight for getting that place. my cousins and others guys know that and when we were not in good terms they used to occupy the place and then start dhakkam pel (sometimes even during offering prayers). lols. Whenever I viist masjid at our hometown, I always remember how touchy I used to be about that particular place.
The only thing I can remember is how with a couple of friends, we’d just sit at the back of the masjid and talk, until the imam would go into ruku. Then we’d all run and join the salat at that time.
This is probably not what you were expecting. In my chacha’s masjid, the imam used to teach quran to a bunch of kids. He was known to be very strict and the students were very afraid of him. One day during ramadan, he wanted to showcase his students so he asked one of his students to lead the prayers. The kid must have been maybe 13 or 14 years old. He started, but messed up the order of surahs between first and second rakahs. Don’t know when he realized it, but he took the congregation into sajdah, and slowly got up and left the masjid, leaving everybody in sajdah. They waited for a few minutes and the imam took over and finished the namaz.
Not when we were kids but in late teens, I and my sister used to chuckle and stare women going for wudu renewal after every 2 taraweeh whispering iss ne aaj rajjj kay chanay ki chaat khaaii hai and then changing our places moving away from pakoray ki dakaar wali aunties
My son 3yo went to masjid for the first time with hubby for eid namaz..and as soon as imam started the surahs he asked his dad loudly " baba .. yeh Allah mian kahan se bol rahay hain" poor kid knew masjid Allah ka ghar hai so it’s no one else who can host and lead the namaz. Husband told many people burst into laughter hearing the innocent question
LOL I would wait for the first Rakat of tarawih and me and my friends would all run out and chill with the boys in the masjid carpark, eating ice lollies and crisps from the off licence our parents never let us step foot in.
Our timings were so accurate we would all be back by the last tarawih and then join the rest of the people at the back.
