So I was wondering whether there was anything that u guys ate/drank in the last free weeks if pregnancy to aid having a faster labour?
I’ve heard or two things, the first being raspberry leaf tea which is supposed to help the uterus contract better/effectively thus making second stage of labour faster.
2ndly my Aunty tells me to drink milk with butter towards the end as this supposedly makes the baby come faster (somehow I don’t see how this works).
Oh another is to mix castor oil with milk, but here in London it is highly discouraged.
So have u guys tried any if the above?? If so, what were ur experiences, did it help?
Do u know any others that work?
I would really appreciate your experiences and advice
Re: Things to eat/drink to make labour easier? I.e raspberry leaf tea
milk with butter sounds soo funny!
I have heard a big no no for castor oil too.. it has way too many side affects!
raspberry leaf.. apparently it doesnt taste good!
I am not trying anything.. no matter what you do, baby is going to come when it's ready! 37 or 40 depending on when you conceived so why bother!
Walk is recommended and encouraged so go for it.. walk as much as possible! I have also heard if you are overdue, go for uphill walk, apparently it works!
Re: Things to eat/drink to make labour easier? I.e raspberry leaf tea
The raspberry leaf tea tasted fine to me and I hated the taste of everything while pregnant. I had it oncenear the due date and went into labor the same night. The doctor was talking about an ultrasound a fewdays before becuase she didn't think I would go into labor anytime soon. I advocate its use close to the due date. CastorOil is discouraged. Mopping the floor in a sqautting position also is encouraged. The squatting is also a midwife trick.
Re: Things to eat/drink to make labour easier? I.e raspberry leaf tea
I tried red raspberry leaf tea (different than raspberry tea) and milk and butter. I am not sure if htey helped or not but this time i am going to just try the red raspberry leaf. My midwife strongly advised me against castor oil (in the US). She said if i do go into labor because of it, i would be feeling terrible with contractions and bathroom trips and stomach cramps at the same time. I never thought about it and ALhamdulillah i didnt have to since my daugter came a week early after 20 hours of labor.
Also, like GTG said, please walk as much as you can, that can help. your baby will come when he or she is ready so try to relax.
Re: Things to eat/drink to make labour easier? I.e raspberry leaf tea
so I read about red raspberry leaf tea here and at baby center forum and got myself some since it was implied that the tea helps strengthening the uterus for labor.. I also checked with my midwife regarding this and she assured me that it wont induce labor but defnitely help with the uterus... lo n behold, I took some at 35 weeks and I ended up in the L&D due to contractions! I also have gallstones during pregnancy so that pain was triggered as well.. no one believed that tea could do that so I took another cup and again I was having very strong contractions!
If you are not full term, dont try.. who knows what it does to different people.. I am pretty sure people will have difference experience across the board but I just shared mine. :-)

Afshi.. I think there is a difference between raspberry tea and raspberryleaf tea.. apparently the second one prevents miscarriages too so it shouldnt be a big deal and must not trigger labor but who knows! Everyone's body is different and in fact reacts differently to these herbal teas!
I believe they recommend some herbal meds to trigger labor if you are over due!! I wont play with nature, unless medically necessary!
