smokey mountains are in TN actually but around 4-5 hour drive. Since you are already driving 12 hours so I guess you should just skip it for now but its a MUST do for summer so perhaps next summer take a drive through smokey mountains on Blue Ridge Parkway. One of the most scenic route you will ever encounter. If you go now, you might be able to catch fall colors though
Jordan lake would be around 40-50 min drive from Raleigh. Its a very nice place to be during summer not sure if you would be able to do much in Nov
and for kids you can add Pullen park to the list. How old are the kids? Depending on their age, they will also enjoy Frankies Fun Park
