As MyVoice has been relatively dormant lately, I will post this article in his honor on Turkey day…
Police hit man in genitals with Taser
November 22, 2005
FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. --Police accidentally hit a naked man in the genitals with a Taser after he was caught breaking windows and asking women to touch him, authorities said.
Jeremy J. Miljour, 26, tried to run away when sheriff’s deputies approached so one of them shot their Taser, said Cpl. Matt Chitwood. But one of the gun’s prongs accidentally hit Miljour’s genitals and got stuck, Chitwood said.
“The Taser is relatively accurate, but when someone is moving like that, it doesn’t matter if you have a Taser, or a pistol. (Officers) can’t aim,” Chitwood said.
A taser is a police weapon that shoots two darts attached to wires at the criminal, then sends 50k volts through the wires, disabling the bad guy......
Thats not even "ouch"anymore. That sounds positively vile and so very painful. Are only police men in America allowed them? I wonder if they have them in the UK.
Police in the UK are allowed to use tasers. Our police are happy about having something they can shoot at dangerous criminals that will leave them completely unharmed but incapacitated.
In fact, the UK police trials revealed that when the police shouted as suspects that they were armed with tasers, in many cases the suspects would surrender. Interestingly enough, this suggests that whilst criminals are willing to break the law, for some reason they are unwilling to try and argue with 50,000 volts.
Right now, there are prototypes of a new kind of taser which doesn’t need the wires. It ionises the air between the gun and the target and delivers the 50,000 volt current through the air.
Unfortunately, right now it’s so big and bulky it can only be fired from a table, but miniaturisation is in progress…
Tasers are awesome non-lethal weapons. There have been some cases where tasers have caused people to die (extreme conditions) and there has been much public outcry against tasers. Well hello, dont guns kill?
I dont know about other police depts around the world but Toronto police officers all have to undergo a 1 second shock from a taser gun before they are given the authority to use it. Just so they know how much it hurts. Saw a clip on TV recently of a police officer getting his 1 second dose of 50K volts. He was a huge and extremely well built man, around 6'4ish. Just that one second shock caused him to fall on the floor, curl up and cry like a little girl. Thats how much it hurts :D
