As a fashion statement I guess rather than a traditional way . Dulha dulhan live so far now that it is not practical to transport a moti tazi dulhan to grooms home in a Palki/dolli.

In India, Steam Engines have completely disappeared barring the world heritage toy train serving Darjeeling and occasional runs of heritage trains in and around Delhi/Mumbai/Madras and Calcutta.**
