Re: Things Desi people say on birth of daughters?
Have you ever seen people distributing sweets like they distribute on birth of a son?
Yes we did on the birth of our daughter. Her Dada did back in Karachi.
Back when we were kids, our father did on the birth of all three of us sisters as well as our brothers. Since I was the oldest, sweets were distributed even in Pakistan by my Dadi. Something that didn’t happen on the second birth in our family even though it was a boy.
Re: Things Desi people say on birth of daughters?
What about compensating statements like ‘ye khushnaseeb hai, iss ke peeche bhai aae ga’. There was this popular myth to name girl Bushra to bring Basharat (khushkhabri of a son).

Re: Things Desi people say on birth of daughters?
my oldest sister was born in islamabad. apparently back then or even now in some parts of the world, its common to NOT congratulate at the birth of a girl.. some woman came and did not say mubarakbaad, but said: inshallah, agli dafa beta hoga" this was in 1983. hopefully things have changed a bit by now
