thin line between love & hate ...

So what does this phrase actually mean? I have never really understood how this can be possible - how can love & hate be so close??

Aren’t these two things opposites? How can you both love & hate someone / something ?? I mean, if you hate something or someone which you thought you loved, then doesn’t that mean that you could not haved possibly loved them ? So confused…

Can anybody shed any light? Give examples…

means that habits that you love in a person can also can get annoying.

i.e my hubby is detailed orientated. love that I don't have to worry about the details but the man can't relax. Everything is a go go go what's next. When he pulls his 10 page document scheduled itineraries on our vacations with hour to hour details, I want to put him along with the pages in the shredder.

The opposite of love is said to be indifference. In a way I can understand the quote. If someone you love hurts you and you develop hatred toward them.....it can be argued that the more you had loved the person, the more their betrayal will hurt, the more you'll hate them.....so that hatred stems from love. Also, both love and hate involve energy and care. When you love a person, you care enough to to think about them. Funnily enough, when you hate a person ...you care enough to think about them...albeit in a negative way...but you're still expending emotional energy (as you do in love).

Quotations are often over simplified. I think sometimes hatred that you feel for a person...especially someone you don't really know that we'll....can stem from other emotions such as fear, insecurity, etc. But people u love are the ones that can cause you greater pain than an acquaintance/stranger....and it can be said that the resulting hatred comes from love.
