I have started my MS CS thesis recently on Semantic web. I need some guidance and information on Semantic web.Can any1 come up with a problem area in this field on which i can work on for my thesis…I need some ideas… Your comments and suggestions will be highly appreciated.

The term “Semantic Web” is often used more specifically to refer to the formats and technologies that enable it
However, the Semantic Web as originally envisioned, a system that enables machines to understand and respond to complex human requests based on their meaning, has remained largely unrealized and its critics have questioned its feasibility.
If I were you I would undertake a linguistic study and behavioural study on the types of questions a broad cross-section of people are likely to ask on websites, in order to get closer to the original intent of Semantic Web. Consider their knowledge of English, their background of English (i.e. Chinese, Indian or US, etc), their knowledge of computer systems, and their conceptual understanding of metadata and key words. Analyse how each group commands the language and discern what adustments people make when searching on the web. Sample test a range of people and see how they query the web to find what they are looking for, analyse how successful their attempts to find data are. Base it on whether they get their information within 30sec, less then 2 mins, less than 5 mins and not achieved. Avoid looking at technologies that they use to facilitate the finding.
Appraise the dangers in key word search - i.e. often conjunctions and grammar when missed out can make the search more ambiguous, etc.
and propose a solution.
Use as reference material breakthroughs in artificial intelligence in the attempt to make computers more human like the lessons in those areas will provide insight for the Sematic Web academics. (This is a personal guess - hypothesis)

what's the scope of your thesis (application-oriented / business-problem-oriented), and what type of research are you going to conduct (applied design research or empirical exploratory)?
I'm personally a researcher in business informatics and from my perspective, there are a few areas that come to mind. These are of course also based on my own research interests in related fields:
i) Challenges & Opportunities with the convergence of semantic web and social media.
ii) Drivers & Barriers for transitioning to semantic web for X (x could be whatever type of enterprise context that interests you e.g. e-Government, e-Commerce).
iii) Semantic Web applications for collective and collaborative intelligence.

Thanks everyone. After 1 year im actaully viewing this website because when no one replied i didn't turned back to see it again :-(
Finally my thesis is going to be finished this week with my final presentation on Saturday :) i hope everything ends well !

I have also written a research paper on my thesis topic and have sent it in a conference .... lets see what happens.
