**“These guys throw away their lives like confetti” **
It’s a simple statement that may explain a lot about suicide bombers. Another guppy used this phrase to describe the suicide bombers now plaguing Iraq and I think it’s a great comparison, even beyond what it’s saying at face value.
People use confetti as a sign of celebration, often at weddings or parades. Colorful bits of paper thrown in the air that grab attention and then fall to the ground littering it. Celebratory noise accommodates the confetti such as shouts of joy or clapping.
When a suicide blast occurs colorful chaos emerges, body parts and thrown into the air, rubble is skewed about and noise created from the blast as well as cries of terror, pain, and confusion fill the air.
Clearly comparing a suicide bombing with confetti is a dark yet creative way of describing the physical act and its physical aftereffects but does the comparison go beyond an artistic physical description?
As I said before people use confetti to celebrate, are suicide bombers using their destruction to celebrate as well? Are they using their suicide to celebrate their death and or what it leaves behind?
If religion is the cause behind the bomber.
If one believes they are going to be rewarding with paradise for their death then indeed it would be a celebration, this could also explain why they (Iraqi suicide bombers) carelessly kill other Muslims in the act. They may have been taught that not only will they go to paradise for their deadly act but they have no need to worry about killing other Muslims as those Muslims killed will also be rewarded paradise. Thus the act of suicide with the intention of hurting the infidel would be a celebration and any Muslim caught in the crossfire will be rewarded.
If forces other than religion are the cause behind the bomber.
Recently an MIT study showed that suicide bombers from Palestine areas attacking Israel are morale boosters for those back home. We didn’t need this study to tell us this as we’ve seen treats are handed out after a successful suicide bomber hits Israel. By all means it is a celebration, the suicide bomber caused a difference something he or she thought they could not do while alive, their acts effects are short lived but clearly this kind of suicide bomber themselves are short sighted. This suicide bomber is created by failure.
“These guys throw away their lives like confetti”, it’s certainly true. These suicide bombers celebrate their death because of promise or reward, because of failure in life, and like confetti they will be swept away and forgotten. The celebration of death will lead to chaos and destruction, it’s the celebration of life that leads to peace and tranquility.
