Does that still happen, or that just some optimistic 90’s thing?
I was watching a show called global trekker on TV, and this white dude goes to Pakistan for trekking. Pretty interesting, although seems like a thing for hardcore trekkers.

he hitchhiked on a truck to a tent hotel, met a shepherd who spoke English, and then came back.
things have changed drastically over the last 5 years in pakistan with regards to trekking and travel. theres more and more people from within pakista getting out into the northern areas ...most trekked places are allsections of the northern areas administrative decision including the wakhan corridor which is a part of afghanistan, the galiyat and the kaghan valley...
i met 2 lahories who had driven on their motorbikes all the way from lahore to the khunjerab pass.....theymust have climbed from 200metres to well over 4000metres and it took them quite a few days....they were only intending to go to muree which is only about 6 hours from lahore....lol
